Martin Fitzpatrick RIP - memorial
It is with great sadness that Daingean GAA learned of the passing of Martin Fitzpatrick, a cherished member of our club family and one of the finest Gaelic games players from the area
Martin was a gifted and intelligent forward, blessed with a keen eye for goal and an great committment to our Games. He was a cornerstone of the Daingean forward line during one of the club's most memorable eras, winning Junior Championship honours in 1953 and Intermediate Championship glory in 1954. He carried that same dedication to St. Colemans, with whom he claimed Junior and Intermediate championship wins in 1957 and 1958 respectively.
Among the many highlights of his distinguished playing career, none is more vividly remembered than his brilliantly executed goal in the 1955 Senior Final — a score that was controversially disallowed, and which remains a talking point today!
Beyond football, Martin excelled on the handball alley, winning numerous Offaly championship titles during the 1950s and 1960s, and serving with great distinction as Chairman of the Offaly Handball Board. His service to the GAA extended further still — winning a Senior Football Championship with Tullamore in 1963 and later serving as Chairman of Tullamore GAA Club on three occassions
Martin gave a lifetime of service to Gaelic games in Offaly — as a player, an administrator, and an unwavering supporter of everything the GAA stands for. His legacy endures in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Daingean GAA extends its deepest sympathies to Martin's family, friends, and all who mourn his passing. As a mark of respect our club flag will fly at half mast and a minutes silence will be observed prior to this evening's Division 2 League Semi final
