Our U12 joint captains Conor R and Evan B receiving the cup, having won the league playoffs V Gallen 2:0 in Killeigh
All round great play in the sweltering heat from the team.
The lads made the opposition sweat by making them chase the ball. One nil up after 5 minutes from Evan B.
Loads more chances in a dominant display in the first half.
The second half opened with a great Gallen effort coming back of the crossbar for Gallen’s clearest chance.
Abbeyleix tired in the second half as the heat began to take its toll, some loose clearances and headers going back towards our own goal.
There was a spate of corners to Gallen, but this team has had an excellent defence all season, both in open play and defending corners, with shot stopper Conor F solid as a rock in the last line of defence.
With a water break in the second half and some stoppages, the second 30 mins were up and still the game was at risk when Tadgh B broke from the halfway line, ball to feet, full speed. All watching knew there was only one outcome to follow, keeper came out, Tadgh calmly waited for him to commit himself and calmly nutmegged the keeper to score.
The title was secured tonight in Killeigh, but it was won by the whole squad across a whole season.

Good coaching shows when kids receive the ball to feet, look up, find a friend and move for the return. These players just do this like it is obvious and natural. It is only obvious and natural when you have been consistently well coached.
Well done to the whole squad and to the parents for making it possible.
