What a weekend for Team Bold at the ICN South Island Classic.

Three first-time competitors. Plenty of nerves, sparkle and backstage chaos. A freezing Christchurch garage for tanning. Chris being used as the communal pump-up machine. And by the end of it, our three athletes had officially become the Powerpuff Girls.

Exactly how we planned it.

Jolene Dawn absolutely cleaned up:

Swimsuit
🥇 1st Timer
🥈 Novice
🥈 Open

Bikini Model
🥇 1st Timer
🥇 Novice
🥇 Open
🏆 OVERALL CHAMPION

Six podium finishes and an Overall title at her very first show. Not a bad debut.

dana also stepped on stage for the first time and made sure nobody missed her:

🥉 Runway
🥉 Bikini 1st Timer

Her posing was full of sass, confidence and personality. She didn’t just hit the poses, she performed them, bringing plenty of presence and showing us exactly what she’s capable of as her confidence grows.

And then there was Sarah Lubbe :

Swimsuit
🥇 23/Junior

Bikini
🥉 23/Junior
🥉 Momma
🥉 Open Class 2

Sarah had the terrifying honour of being the first athlete to walk on stage for Swimsuit. No one to watch or follow. Just “off you go.”

There may have been a minor backstage panic 😂 But she pulled herself together, walked out and won her very first class.

She also did it while battling pneumonia and a broken rib, because apparently a first bodybuilding show wasn’t challenging enough already.

We’re incredibly proud of all three athletes. Not just for the results, but for walking into a completely unfamiliar environment, managing the nerves, tan, heels, waiting and backstage chaos, then getting up there and owning their moment.

That takes guts.

A special mention to Rachel Mead | ICN Bikini Pro , who once again stepped seamlessly into backstage mum and posing coach mode, keeping everyone calm, checking details and stopping the wheels from falling off.

Three stage debuts. A pile of medals. An Overall title. Plenty of sass. One broken rib. One bout of pneumonia. Approximately 700 layers of tan. Three Powerpuff Girls. And some lasting memories.

Next stop: ICN New Zealand Nationals. 👀

Sometimes the biggest difference isn’t a new plan or a harder push.

It’s having someone in your corner who sees what you’re capable of, even when you can’t quite see it yourself.

That’s coaching. ❤️

Apparently some of you would prefer a slightly more flexible coaching package.

So, due to absolutely no demand whatsoever, we’re introducing our new Bold Physique Coaching Add-Ons.

Jokes aside, good coaching isn’t always about telling you what you want to hear.

Sometimes it’s telling you to stick to the plan. Sometimes it’s calling out the 10g of peanut butter that looked suspiciously like 40g. Sometimes it’s telling you that no, you probably didn’t gain 3kg of muscle over the weekend.

A good coach should support you, listen to you and adapt when there’s a genuine reason to. But they also need to be willing to have the conversations you might not particularly enjoy.

If you want someone to agree with everything you do, validate every excuse and tell you what you want to hear, Im probably not the coach for you.

If you want honesty, accountability and someone firmly in your corner while you work towards your goals, well that comes included in the standard package!

No add-on required.

Instagram can make you believe great coaching is all about viral exercises, clever transitions, and constantly inventing something “new”.

It isn’t.

Most of the time, good coaching looks surprisingly ordinary. Boring even.

It’s writing programmes that don’t need changing every week.

It’s giving the same cue for the hundredth time because technique still matters.

It’s adjusting calories by small amounts instead of making dramatic changes.

It’s reminding someone that consistency beats perfection, over and over again.

The truth is, progress is repetitive.

Train.
Eat.
Recover.
Check in.
Adjust.
Repeat.

None of that is particularly exciting.

But it’s exactly how physiques change.

As coaches, our job isn’t to entertain you.

Our job is to help you become stronger, leaner, healthier, or step on stage looking your best. Sometimes that means telling you to stay the course when you were hoping for something new.

Because the basics, done exceptionally well, will outperform fancy shortcuts almost every time.

If your coach seems a little “boring”, ask yourself one question.

Are you getting results?

If the answer is yes, you’ve probably found the right coach.

Did you mean to hire a coach or a magician?

Your plan might need changing.

It might be working perfectly.

You might be struggling, flying, skipping sessions, hitting PBs, losing weight or eating peanut butter directly from the jar.

Without a proper check-in, I have absolutely no idea.

I can coach you, but I cannot read minds, see through walls or summon your progress photos from another dimension.

Send the check-in. 🪄 💫

Behind the scenes of Bold merch coming to life. If only making them was actually this fast. 😅 Every shirt is hand pressed in-house by Mrs B!

Winning isn’t down to genetics. It comes down to desire, and desire shows up in what you do, not what you say.

I’ve coached hundreds of athletes. The ones who place aren’t always the most gifted.

They’re the ones who tick every box, trust the plan, and go all in without watering it down.

Same programme, completely different results, because one athlete believed in it and the other didn’t.

If you’re serious about your next show and you want a coach who’ll hold you to that standard, get in touch and let’s talk about your goals.
