Ricky Gervais Quotes
English - Writer Born: June 25, 1961
People confuse the subject of the joke with the target of the joke, and they're very rarely the same.
I do the Golden Globes because they say I can say what I want. I wouldn't have that at the Oscars.
I don't know why other people are concerned about other people's lives that much.
Cynicism, to me, is trying to make people as unhappy as you are.
With Netflix, I browse; I watch documentaries about things I'd never dream of, but I think, 'I might as well.'
Luckily, even when people are shouting lies, the truth is undamaged. Science doesn't matter what you believe.
I am not a wolf in sheep's clothing, I'm a wolf in wolf's clothing.
I think it's important to hold a mirror up to society and yourself.
If I just cut out the food, I'd have a six-pack. I'd look like Matthew McConaughey.
Let's be honest here: Twitter, for me, is 90 per cent a marketing tool.
I like grown-up comedy, where it's about character and attitude and life as opposed to obvious gross-out and jokes.
I don't know what Trump has to do to lose his supporters. It's like a religion. He's a school bully.
I'd much rather eat exactly what I want, and then burn it off, than diet.
Stephen Merchant looks like a Muppet. I mean, he looks like Beaker.
I don't do karaoke. I don't dance, even at weddings. I'm the grumpy one sitting down drinking wine.
I think all art - even one as lowly as making jokes about celebrities - is there to make a connection.
Stupidity without malice isn't horrible; some people can't help it.
I'm influenced by those '40s, '50s, and '60s films: things like 'The Apartment' - I was a big fan of Billy Wilder.
If I've only got a career if I bring David Brent back, you can have it.
I love 'The Godfather' and 'Casablanca' - great stories, acted well, made well.
I always do a little bit of improv. I did some of 'The Office,' a tiny bit in 'Extras,' a bit more in 'Derek.'
I find comedy easy, and I find drama exciting and tantalising.
What makes 'Derek' a different kind of sitcom - if it is even a sitcom - is its sincerity.
When I see a headline 'Guess who's going out with who?' I don't guess, and I don't click.
I think Spielberg is a master. I think 'Jaws' invented a genre.
I've got re-addicted to normal people, which is the loveliest thing to write about.
I think comedies should be short. I don't want to be self-indulgent; I don't want a two-hour comedy.
I don't do one-liners, because you don't learn anything about that comedian.
The great thing about being an artist is, we want our work to be seen.
I was David Bowie-thin up to about 28, and then I discovered food.
Look, just tell me where that lemon came from and I'll shut up and go away.
Comedy is easy for me, but with drama, I don't know... it's still the Holy Grail.
I love UFC, vigilante films, and any acts of merciless heroism.
Your reputation is still the most important thing that you've got.
I've been lucky enough to be able to choose exactly where I want to live.
The second series is always my favourite as a writer/director; you can hit the ground running... so that's fun.
People now live their lives like an open wound to be famous - they do bad things because they're rewarded for it.
When I was growing up, I didn't like cheese. I had to wean myself onto cheese.

Thornton Wilder Quotes
American - Novelist April 17, 1897 - December 7, 1975
Ninety-nine percent of the people in the world are fools and the rest of us are in great danger of contagion.
I know that every good and excellent thing in the world stands moment by moment on the razor-edge of danger and must be fought for.
Marriage is a bribe to make the housekeeper think she's a householder.
Those who are silent, self-effacing and attentive become the recipients of confidences.
There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning.
When you're safe at home you wish you were having an adventure; when you're having an adventure you wish you were safe at home.
For what human ill does not dawn seem to be an alleviation?
In advertising, not to be different is virtual su***de.
Many who have spent a lifetime in it can tell us less of love than the child that lost a dog yesterday.
We do not choose the day of our birth nor may we choose the day of our death, yet choice is the sovereign faculty of the mind.
Every good thing in the world stands on the razor-edge of danger.
Nature reserves the right to inflict upon her children the most terrifying jests.
The more decisions that you are forced to make alone, the more you are aware of your freedom to choose.
My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy your ice cream while it's on your plate.
Hope, like faith, is nothing if it is not courageous; it is nothing if it is not ridiculous.
Seek the lofty by reading, hearing and seeing great work at some moment every day.
The best thing about animals is that they don't talk much.
It is very necessary to have markers of beauty left in a world seemingly bent on making the most evil ugliness.
Pride, avarice, and envy are in every home.
If I wasn't an actor, I'd be a secret agent.
Literature is the orchestration of platitudes.
An incinerator is a writer's best friend.
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.
There's nothing like eavesdropping to show you that the world outside your head is different from the world inside your head.
Love is an energy which exists of itself. It is its own value.
Man is not an end but a beginning. We are at the beginning of the second week. We are children of the eighth day.
A play visibly represents pure existing.
Many plays - certainly mine - are like blank checks. The actors and directors put their own signatures on them.
I would love to be the poet laureate of Coney Island.
It is only in appearance that time is a river. It is rather a vast landscape and it is the eye of the beholder that moves.

Gordon Neufeld Quotes

Canadian - Psychologist

Digital intimacy ruins the appetite for the real thing. So, when kids are gaming or even when spouses are gaming, they lose their appetite for genuine intimacy. Kids lose their appetite for getting their intimacy needs, their hunger for significance and attachment, with the family, and it erodes the relationship between them and their parents.
I started my career in parent education with the idea that we needed to let our kids go. I believed that parents were suffocating for their children. There was no room for individuality and personhood.
Children need to trust and depend upon those who are responsible for them.
Many people think that discipline is the essence of parenting. But that isn't parenting. Parenting is not telling your child what to do when he or she misbehaves. Parenting is providing the conditions in which a child can realize his or her full human potential.
We have lost sight of nature's role in the whole process of maturation and growing up. Parents and nature are a team. And nature can't go on without the parental role of being able to foster individuality and viability unless the attachment needs are fully met.
Peer attachments are not the problem themselves. It's when they compete with adult attachments that the problems emerge. It's just like when siblings get attached to each other. If they start revolving around each other, then the parents can't do anything with them because it's a competing attachment.
Parents are the designated caregivers and are best suited for being able to raise children.
It is a parent's responsibility to preserve the connection with their children, to preserve the relationship, so that the children can let go and become their own selves.

Hans Eysenck Quotes
German - Psychologist March 4, 1916 - September 4, 1997

Tact and diplomacy are fine in international relations, in politics, perhaps even in business; in science only one thing matters, and that is the facts.
They show that roughly two-thirds of a group of neurotic patients will recover or improve to a marked extent within about two years of the onset of their illness, whether they are treated by means of psychotherapy or not.
I always felt that a scientist owes the world only one thing, and that is the truth as he sees it.
In general, certain conclusions are possible from these data. They fail to prove that psychotherapy, Freudian or otherwise, facilitates the recovery of neurotic patients.
If the truth contradicts deeply held beliefs, that is too bad.
In our tabulation of psychoanalytic results, we have classed those who stopped treatment together with those not improved. This appears to be reasonable; a patient who fails to finish his treatment, and is not improved, is surely a therapeutic failure.
There thus appears to be an inverse correlation between recovery and psychotherapy; the more psychotherapy, the smaller the recovery rate.
