Every Kamae has its unique features and use.

In Chinese I-ching and Taoism, each element has both positive and negative form, which you may see easily in Jodan and Nito. I will further explain later in another post.

Here are some notes for each Kamae.

Basic 5 Kamae and the elements
Chudan - Water
- Center line concept. 5 Seigan
- Bring the spirit from Jodan to raise form power
Hidari Jodan - Fire (Negative)
- Katate waza. Like trebuchet/fire arrow.
- Make use of the distance advantage.
Gedan - Earth
- Debana/Oji waza
- vs naginata (protect and attack sune)
Hasso - Tree
- vs multiple enemies/arrows/yari
- Between Jodan and Waki (use their waza)
Waki - Gold
- Hidden (die to live) Kiriotoshi waza level one
- Omote-Ura switch

Extra
Migi Jodan - Thunder (Positive Fire)
- Thunder Strike or Lighting hit
- Strongest spirit
Sei Nito - Taichi (Yang-yin)
- Traditional way
- Make use of long-short tsuka
Gyuku Nito - Taichi (Yin-Yang)
- Kendo special (left hand dominant, Jodan+Kotachi waza)
- More changeable (left/right foot at the front)

Every Kamae is practical.
