What would happen if you touched a manta ray? 👀

Probably nothing to you.

But for the manta, it can damage the protective mucus layer that helps protect its skin from bacteria and infections.

That’s one reason responsible divers keep their hands to themselves and enjoy the encounter from a respectful distance.

Mola mola season is coming 👀

Here’s what you need to know before you dive with one.

Mola mola come to Nusa Penida to be cleaned by bannerfish and bluestreak cleaner wrasse. During cleaning they barely move, holding perfectly still in a vertical position.

Two ways to spot one: cleaning — you can approach slowly and observe, they won’t swim away. Swimming — don’t chase it, you’ll just scare it away.

And mola jumping? Almost nobody gets to see it — that’s a story only our captains witness from the boat 😂

Divers can surface far from the boat, especially on drift dives in Nusa Penida 🌊

That’s why we use SMBs (surface marker buoys). The crew recognises our SMBs and times the dives, so when a specific colour buoy is deployed, they know where to pick us up 🤿
