Could you picture a better classroom photo than this one? 😍

16 students and 3 teachers from Chadwick International β€” an IB school from Songdo, South Korea β€” just spent 5 days with us in Padangbai. Five days of getting into the water, learning how reefs actually work, and planting corals with their own hands on a real restoration site.

Day 1 β€” workshop and first coral planting.
Days 2 and 3 β€” back on our reef, diving, planting, maintaining.
Day 4 β€” leisure dives to explore Bali's waters.
Day 5 β€” Nusa Penida. Because if you're going to learn about the ocean, you might as well see all of it! 🐠

Chadwick has been bringing students to us for several years now β€” different faces every time, same energy, same curiosity. We never get tired of it.

To this year's group β€” you were brilliant! The reef has your name on it now!

Calling independent researchers! πŸͺΈπŸ”

If you're working on a reef-related research project and looking for a field site in Indonesia β€” we have 8,000 square meters of active coral restoration reef in Padangbai, Bali and a team ready to support your work.

We welcome academic applicants with an external supervisor who arrive with their own project and proposal. Start dates are flexible and project length depends on your needs.

This isn't a structured internship β€” it's your research, on a living reef, with hands-on support from our team in the field.

Sound like what you've been looking for?

Growing is also experimenting...! 😌πŸͺΈ Have a look at our latest test: coral on rope!

Our team member Bayu is running an experiment to see how corals grow on a different kind of support.

Each rope is 6 metres long with 25 to 30 coral fragments tucked into the gaps. The goal? Track exactly how fast they grow each month and see if this method could become part of how we restore reefs at scale.

No guarantees. No conclusions yet. Just curiosity, patience and a team that never stops looking for better ways to do this work.

That's how restoration actually moves forward β€” not just by planting, but by questioning, testing and learning.

We'll keep you updated on how they grow. πŸ‘€

Did you know corals have been on Earth for over 500 million years? 🀯 They survived ice ages, mass extinctions, and asteroid impacts. They were here long before the dinosaurs.

So next time you dive, take a moment to really look at them. Get close. Observe every magnificent detail on the hard and soft corals β€” the textures, the shapes, the tiny life living within them.

Something that ancient deserves more than a glance.

πŸ’” Heartbreaking. Infuriating.

For over three months we were forced to watch the destruction without being able to do anything β€” our permission to relocate corals was revoked. Three months of standing helpless while construction swallowed the reef.

We are back now. But what we came back to broke us β€” long stretches of destroyed reef, pollution, algae taking over where corals once thrived.

πŸ‘‡πŸΌ For those who don't know what's happening in Candidasa, East Bali:
A large coastal infrastructure project is being built along a 3km stretch of coastline. The goal is to fight erosion and restore beaches that locals and tourism depend on. We understand why it exists. But part of that construction is happening directly over one of Bali's most vital reef ecosystems β€” they are destroying corals that took decades to grow and wiping out marine life that entire ocean communities depend on.

We have just restarted the rescue and already saved 72 crates of corals β€” but construction is ongoing and we are racing against time. We need fuel for the boats, materials for the nurseries, and support to keep going. None of this is free.

If you've seen us talk about this before, this is your sign to finally act. πŸ’›

An artificial beach is being constructed right on top of it β€” smothering corals that took decades to grow, wiping out marine life that entire ocean communities depend on. A reef is destroyed so tourists can have sand. Once it's gone, it doesn't come back.

Did you know them all? 🀯

Moray eels have a terrible reputation. And honestly, most of it is undeserved. 🐍

They look aggressive. They're constantly opening their mouth at you. They hide in dark corners and stare you down.

But once you actually understand them β€” they're one of the most fascinating creatures in the ocean. A body that ties itself into knots. A breathing technique that looks like a threat. And a hunting strategy so coordinated it still surprises researchers today.

We see them almost every dive on our reef in Padangbai. And every single time, they still make us stop and stare.

Swipe to find out why. πŸ‘‰πŸΌ
