Due to marine humidity throughout SE Asia salt residue remaining on the regulator before storage multiplies at the crystal level. Accumulation of this mineral crusting over 3 to 6 months can completely strip internal chrome plating and sieze the internal dynamic components of dive regulators.

Lengthy storage with the second stage seat and or***ce in compressed contact would most certainly result in second stage freeflows when you next use the regulator, due to an indent forming on silicon seats.

Upon reciept, Your regulator will be fully disassembled, inspected and cleaned. All standard service parts will be replaced according to the manufacturers specification.
Following final rebuild and adjustment to meet all operational tolerances the regulator will be prepped for long term storage.

This procedure includes applying a 'purge activator' to each second stage opening the demand valve, this prevents contact between the Seat and Or***ce until it is removed before next use.
We then Vacuum Pack the entire regulator set to prevent environmental degradation during the regulators hibernation period.

Your regulator then is returned to you in a sealed carton, or it can be securely stored at our facility then later forwarded to a destination of your choice the week before your next intended use.

Wet Air Filling.

This picture shows the result of poor compressor operation and maintenance. Moisture in natural air causes corrosion inside scuba cylinders, this moisture is normally filtered out during the filling process, this is why we experience a dry mouth when diving. If water is allowed to enter the cylinder during filling over time oxidation occurs, and ; a white loose powder accumulates.

Telling signs that this has occurred include noticeable increased effort required to draw air from your second stage, and/or the divers SPG needle will drop and rise when a breath is taken.

Pre dive checks after equipment setup should always include an SPG check while operating the second stages. If any movement of the needle is observed send your regulator in for inspection or service. Never remove the filter to save a dive, this substance is toxic to human lung health and can cause long term respiratory disorders.

SCUBA DIVING REGULATOR MAINTENANCE

The regulator possibly the most important part of your scuba diving kit, above all it provides you with the air you breathe underwater. It’s important to take care of your reg and keep it properly maintained. Here are some tips to make sure your regulator is safe and ready to dive.

Check It Out

Before you get in the water, give your reg a careful check. Visually inspect all regulator hoses for wear or cracking.
Make sure there are no holes or tears in the mouth piece and check the metal fittings for corrosion. If you use hose protectors make sure to slide them away and check underneath them as well.
With the reg connected to the tank and the valve still closed, inhale from the mouthpiece; if you’re getting air, there’s a leak somewhere (likely the exhaust diaphragm).
Open the valve fully and, while watching your pressure gauge, take a couple of deep breaths. Air should flow freely, and the gauge shouldn’t budge.
Don’t forget to give your octo the same inspection.

Keep It Clean

Sand and dirt can muck up your regulator. Be mindful of where you set your gear in between dives — especially when shore diving. Get in the habitat of securing your octo so that it doesn’t drag along the sea floor to keep it debris-free.
Water — especially the salty kind — is the mortal enemy of your reg’s innards. The best way to clean a reg is a long soak while it’s connected to a tank and pressurized; that ensures no water can get into the first stage.
If you don’t have a tank handy, make sure the purge valves do not get depressed and the first stage dust cover is firmly in place — otherwise water can get in while you are soaking.

Follow The Schedule

Service schedules (usually every 12 to 24 months) vary by manufacturer, so make sure you follow the servicing guidelines specific to your reg. All regulators have internal components that will degrade over time (especially O-rings), and a professional servicing with a careful inspection is the only way to spot wear, damage or corrosion.
