🤿 Good Underwater Organization Creates Control
Teaching diving is not only about demonstrating skills. As an instructor, you also need to think about how you organize your students underwater.
Before the dive, you make a plan. You decide where you want your students, where you will position yourself, and how you can keep the best overview of the group.
Then you enter the water — and reality might be different.
The formation you planned may not give you enough control. One student might need more attention. The current might push the group differently than expected. Or you simply realize that another setup would work better.
A good instructor recognizes this and changes the organization.
You don't need to continue with something just because that was your original plan.

Why Are We Teaching Divers to Hover Like Buddha? 🤿
We have all seen it during dive training: the Buddha hover, sitting upright in the water with crossed legs.
It might demonstrate that a diver can maintain neutral buoyancy, but there is one problem: this is not how we actually dive.
When we dive, we want to be horizontal, streamlined, neutrally buoyant and in control. So why shouldn't we teach students to hover in the same position they will actually use underwater?
During the SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) at Oceans 5 Gili Air, we focus on teaching skills in a realistic diving position. Instructor candidates learn how to demonstrate and teach hovering while maintaining a proper horizontal position.

The SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) is not only about learning the skills and handling the problems you might encounter during your SSI Instructor Evaluation.
