We could tell you about the House Reef, the communal table, and the food. Or we could let the people who've actually been here do the talking. A few words from recent guests, in their own voice. Tell us your favourite Coral Eye moment below. ๐Ÿ

When Cornelia Thieme dives, she doesn't just photograph the reef. She reimagines it. These are her creative takes on what she found beneath Coral Eye, the same corals and creatures you'd meet on our House Reef, seen through an artist's eye. She paired them with her own words about her stay, so we let the two blend together. Swipe through her Bangka, reimagined. ๐ŸŽจ Artwork and words by Conny Thieme.

Merdeka! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

Every 17 August, Indonesia marks the anniversary of its independence. This year was the 81st, and here on Bangka it is not the kind of day anyone spends alone.

We took the boat over to Lihunu in the morning for the flag ceremony, guitar on board for the crossing. In the afternoon everyone came back to the resort and the beach became the gathering place: volleyball, tug of war, prizes handed out, and a microphone that made its way through most of the crew.

Meet Icha. If your days at Coral Eye run smoothly, she's usually one of the reasons why.
Her job, the way she tells it, is simple: make sure guests are happy. In practice that means joining you on a Tangkoko trip or up in the Minahasa highlands, quietly sorting a request before it becomes a problem, and running every celebration on the calendar, from Christmas and New Year to Indonesia's Independence Day on the 17th of this month. Sometimes, she admits with a laugh, it even means a trip to the hospital.
She also teaches English to the team so every guest feels looked after, and when low season finally arrives she takes her own turn in the water, diving the reef she helps everyone else fall for.
You'll find her around the resort, almost always smiling. Say hi to Icha. ๐ŸŒด What would you want her to show you first?

Nature doesn't do subtle. We took a few of our favourite reef residents and stretched them down to their colours, the exact palette each one wears underwater. Which palette would you frame? ๐ŸŽจ

Twice a week, as the light turns gold, Drinks come out, the kitchen sends over something to share, and somehow it always ends in dancing, temporary tattoos, and a table full of people who were strangers a few days ago. This is aperitivo at Coral Eye. Less an event, more a feeling. What's your idea of a perfect sunset? ๐ŸŒ…

The Marine Outpost has always been the heart of Coral Eye, and this September it welcomes three new faces. From the 14th, marine biology students Lara, Celine and Levin from the University of Tรผbingen spend a month studying our House Reef: the cleaning stations where fish and shrimp team up, the quiet differences between healthy and disturbed reef, and how fish life shifts from one patch to the next. When they surface, they'll be around to chat, give talks, and share what they're finding. Real science, right where you snorkel.๐Ÿ”ฌ
