Start equalising when the water is just above your head. Then every metre as you descend. Don’t wait until it hurts, and do it constantly as you descend.

There are three ways to do it.

1️⃣ Pinch your nose and gently blow air against it until you feel that pop.
2️⃣ Move your jaw.
3️⃣ Or simply swallow.

What you’re watching is what the IDC actually looks like behind the scenes. Candidates practising their presentations, giving briefings to each other, getting comfortable with the language of teaching before they’re ever standing in front of real students.

When your students are swimming in gear for the first time (whether that’s a DSD or an Open Water Course), they need to stay close to their buddy, control their depth, and feel supported. So before anyone gets in the water, you need to know exactly where you are going to be.

In this clip, the candidates work through the positioning together 😎 and then Kazi shows them a simple shift that changes everything.

More space to move.
Better sightlines for the instructor and assistant.
And if anything happens, you’re already within reach.

It’s one of those things that seems small until you’re actually in the water with four students in BCDs for the first time.
