However, weโre actutally looking at a frogfish here and weโve had quite a few sightings of them recently around Penida.
These incredibly camouflaged marine creatures usually live on sponges, where they blend almost perfectly into their surroundings.
Theyโre one of our dive guidesโ favourite creatures to find, mostly because their shape, texture, colour, and ability to remain completely motionless make spotting one feel like a real achievement ๐
Some species are even able to slowly change colour over time to better match the sponge or coral theyโre living on, making them even harder to spot on future dives!
Sometimes the best underwater finds are the ones hiding in plain sight ๐
