At first glance, this looks like a sponge covered in algae.
It’s actually a frogfish.
Frogfish are masters of camouflage, often disappearing completely into the reef. Instead of chasing prey, they wait motionless and use a built-in fishing lure above their mouth to attract unsuspecting fish.
When prey gets close enough…
They can strike in as little as 6 milliseconds — among the fastest feeding movements in the animal kingdom.
This is why slow diving and careful observation often reveal more than swimming fast ever will.
