Jakarta Bintangs Australian Rules Footy Club

Jakarta Bintangs Australian Rules Footy Club NEW ACCOUNT. Come for a kick of the Sherrin in Jakarta. All welcome! The feat was repeated in Singapore in 2002, defeating the tournament hosts in the final.

The Jakarta Bintangs (Stars) Australian Football Club was formed in 1995 with the objective to provide a football outlet to the many Australians living in Indonesia’s capital. Since then, the Club has developed and has been represented by a wide range of players from varying age groups and nationalities including Indonesians, Papua New Guineans, Americans, Canadians, Brits, French and New Zealande

rs. The Bintangs are active in Jakarta, training once a week and hosting visiting clubs from around Asia including Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Brunei. Furthermore the club travels three times per year for away games to destinations that have included Bali, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Saigon and Hong Kong. In 2000, the Bintangs won the inaugural Asian Australian Championships, defeating Hong Kong in the final of the tournament. Two months later the club defeated Hong Kong to take the inaugural Bali 9s title. The Club has been heavily promoting and developing Australian football with Indonesians. In March 2002, supporters were thrilled to witness the first ever ” All Indonesian ” match as a curtain raiser to the season’s opener between Jakarta and Singapore. In 2003, the JAFL commenced with junior Indonesian teams playing regular round robin format tournaments. The Indonesian Volcanoes, a combined team with the Bali Geckos, won at the Asian Championships in 2018. The Jakarta Bintangs women team was formed in 2019. The club maintains a high profile within Jakarta due its hugely popular Grand Final Brunch, whereby Jakarta’s AFL fans have the chance to mix with past and present AFL players flown in for the occasion. Previous guests have included Kevin Neale, Dale Lewis, Matthew Nicks, Matt Primus , Peter Matera, Jack Daniels, Chad Fletcher, Chad Cornes, Darryn Cresswell, Chris Waterman, Rowan Warfe, David Sierakowski, David Hart, Ryan Fitzgerald, David Hynes, Josh Carr, Trent Carroll, and Nathan Bassett. A significant allocation of funding from this function is used to progress social welfare objectives around Jakarta, including the support of the Mama Sayang orphanage. If you’re living in Jakarta or passing through in your travels, contact the Bintangs and come down for a kick of the Sherrin.

2025 marks the 30th birthday of the mighty , and the recent Grand Final weekend provided the perfect backdrop for a 4 day celebration! ⭐️

Thursday - training at followed by a walking pub crawl in Senopati for those here for the reunion.

Friday – a kids’ clinic at followed the big club event of the weekend - our 30 Year Reunion at .0. It was here that we celebrated the club we were and are now, remembered those no longer with us, presented Life Member awards to .latupeirissa97 and .taihuttu , and announced the Team of the Decade (special announcement coming soon!).

Saturday - the Grand Final party with 150 friends at

Sunday - Lofty Cup domestic footy with hangovers and creaking joints at . Special mention to former captain for turning back the clock to kick 2 goals.

Thanks to the legends who travelled to Jakarta for the reunion and helped make the weekend so memorable, including the great whose support was huge. And of course, a massive thanks to .giles .schibs and for doing everything else, and and Matt Stephens for their MC work.

Like the city and country we call home, the club has seen many changes over the years, from being an expatriate club at its formation to now being a predominantly local club continually looking for ways to be relevant in a competitive landscape. What has remained the same are our long-standing club values of community, respect, fun and not taking oneself too seriously, and it is these which have enabled us to adapt, survive and grow over the years. To have so many former players and architects of these club values return to help us celebrate, made this weekend so much more special.

Here's to the next chapter, perpetuate the myth!
