A dolphin skeleton, probably Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus).
It is generally smaller than the Common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), with a longer and narrower “beak,” a somewhat rounder skull, and more numerous, smaller teeth. Notice the tiny tooth holes along the sides of the skull.
It is also the bottlenose dolphin strongly associated with the warm coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific, including Indonesia.
This skeleton, found in 2012 by at Hidden Beach, was already cleaned by time and tide. Only now, with the help of ChatGPT, have we been able to discover its possible identity.

A Javanese eel in Gorontalo? Here a Giant moray (Gymnothorax javanicus) hides in a coral wall. The species name javanicus means “of Java,” referring to the type specimen collected by Pieter Bleeker in 1859 at Pacitan, on the south coast of Java. This large eel thrives in Indo-Pacific reefs.

Viola Land Hermit Crab (Coenobita violascens) lives in the grassy part of our dive center. Usually, it hides inside one of its two holes. However, we captured it touring our dock, even climbing down the stairs! Why did it make this journey? No one knows.
