A little information on why it is very important to use a boat with an offshore B class hull or higher when operating in the Badung and Lombok straits and to be sure that your crew and craft are in top condition!

The photographs below demonstrate the scale of the challenge which presents as follows:

Blue circle ... shelf where water depths rise up from 1000+ feet to 200/300ft over only a short distance, depending on tides.

Yellow arrow. Water flow is 15 million cubic metres per second at a constant 4.5 to 7 knots.

( The Indonesian through flow is the largest water movement in the world, so immense that they actually invented a new unit of measurement for it, called a Sverdup 🤷‍♂️)

Green arrow , large Indian Ocean swells run head on with current flow over the top of the shelf.

Red arrow , 10 to 15 knot steady trades winds for 8 months of the year blowing half metre or more wind waves at right angles to the swell and current directions causing very mixed seas.
