For two months every year, Samambaia stops doing what she does best.

No guests. No diving. Just maintenance.

Dry dock is where most of the work happens, and most of it goes unnoticed once we're back in the water. Engines are overhauled, compressors serviced, wood replaced, systems checked, repainted, repaired and improved.

It's a big investment in time, but we believe it's worth it. A boat that spends months every year exploring some of the most remote parts of Indonesia deserves the same level of care when the season ends.

Just one more month, and we'll be back where we belong.

People often ask how we find so much on our diving trips.

The truth is that most of the credit belongs to our dive guides.

While the rest of us are busy looking at the reef, they're noticing the tiny movements, unusual shapes and small details that most divers would swim straight past. Many of the animals we photograph and talk about after the dive would never be seen without them.

On a diving trip, they are the most important people in the water. Not because they're the ones in front, but because they're the ones making the experience possible for everyone else.

Every pygmy seahorse, hairy shrimp, frogfish or unexpected find starts with a guide who spotted something that the rest of us missed.

This reel is for them.

Manuk is usually known for the sea snakes — and fair enough, there are plenty of them.
But what makes this island special goes well beyond that.
Its reefs sit in open Banda Sea conditions: clear oceanic water, strong circulation, and constant exposure. The result is a reef community built for flow — hard corals mixed with soft corals, oversized barrel sponges and large filter-feeders that thrive where water keeps moving.
It feels different underwater: less sheltered reef, more oceanic reef. More space, more scale, more movement.
And moving through all of it, the sea snakes — hunting, breathing, weaving through the reef like they belong to a different world.
Manuk is not just a snake dive. It’s one of the Banda Sea’s most distinctive ecosystems.

Komodo done properly takes time.
That’s why we run 11-night trips with 10 full diving days, enough time to go beyond the usual route and reach the places that make this area so complete.
Cold, life-packed southern reefs, fish-loaded channels, mantas at Manta Alley, the wild underwater scenery of Nusa Kode. Then the clear northern reefs, different light, different colours, different mood. Macro when you want to slow down, big scenes when you don’t.
And because rushing makes no sense here, we also reach further: Sangeang, black sand slopes, volcanic landscapes, and some of the most interesting dives in the region. Add the viewpoints, empty bays, and of course the Komodo dragons.
Komodo isn’t one thing. That’s the point.
And the best trips here are the ones with enough time to see it properly.

Raja Ampat is raw, intense, and full of life, every dive feels different.
Strong currents, healthy reefs, and more fish than you expect.
