Indonesia is exploding with talented young surfers. Rio Waida, is the first Indonesian surfer to join the WSL's world tour. Ketut Agus, Bronson Meydi, and Dylan Wilcoxen are following in Rio's footsteps. A 16 year old, Westen Hirst won Men's Division of the The Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang contest and a 16 year old Jasmine Studer won the Women's Division as well in 2025. The Men's Division of the The Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang contest in 2026 was also won by a 16 year old, Rajo "Barrel" Saputra.

In this video we captured a few more young Indonesian surfers at the rivermouth in Canggu honing their surf skills.

A few things to keep in mind regarding Sumba. Lodging near the beach is very expensive. Getting from surf spot to surf spot takes a lot of time. The surf spots are very tide sensitive.
