https://www.oneills.com/int_en/shop-by-team/gaa/europe/budapest-gaels-gaa.html Club membership now comprises over 50 men and women - mostly Irish but growing numbers of non-Irish including several Hungarians - who enjoy regular training schedules and competitions throughout Europe. From humble beginnings, the Club has developed into one of the strongest teams in Europe. The Club marked its progression on the pitch in 2007 in Barcelona by winning a Pan-European Round for the first time. In recognition of the Club’s development, the European County Board (ECB) of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), based in Dublin, decided to award one of the calendar year’s four Pan-European Tournaments to Budapest in 2008. The club pulled off an unprecedented double by winning both the 'Championship' and 'Shield' Tournaments, never before had this been achieved in ECB's history. In November 2009, Bp Rangers reached the final of the Maastricht Gaelic Football Pan-Euro tournament before succumbing to Den Haag (newly crowned 2009 ECB Championship winners). Our ladies team reached the semi-final before being pipped by Paris Gaels in a tense and close fought match. The Club has a successful track record in hosting North-East regional rounds. Smaller annual tournaments to date have succeeded in attracting many Irish and local Hungarian spectators. The Club also successfully hosted the European County Board 2007 Annual Convention in December 2007. The Club attended Central Eastern Europen Tournament in Vienna in September 2021 where the men's team won 1st place and the ladies team won 2nd place in the overall competition. Budapest has one of the largest populations of Irish youth in Europe. The Budapest Veterinary Science University is home to almost 200 Irish students. Their is also an increasing number of Irish students doing their Erasmus in Budapest. The Club is proud to provide an outlet for these students to play gaelic games in Hungary and participate in Irish community life.
