Steinbockjoch & Parstleswand Westgipfel (3091m) ❤️⛰️

Another rainy day in the big mountains… Some days make you feel tiny in the best possible way.

The Kaunergrat mountains are incredible—I can honestly say that. Rocks everywhere.

Parstleswand Westgipfel (3091 m) was our highest peak of the trip. The signs to the top weren’t always easy to follow, and just as we got close, the rain started again. We made a quick push to the summit and headed straight back across the big rocks to reach the hut safely.

We started in 20°C down in the valley, but by the time we reached the hut, it was around 5°C with strong wind. Another reminder that mountain weather is always something else.

I lost count of the “wow” moments—and of the salamanders. The wet and cooler conditions seemed to bring them out everywhere, and every new one made me smile.

These are the days that remind me why I love mountain running so much. Not because it’s easy, but because every step feels earned.

Mountain weather changes everything. ⛰️

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from mountain running and hiking is that preparation is part of the adventure.

Before every trip, I check the forecast multiple times—not just the day before, but again in the morning and, whenever possible, during the route. I usually compare several sources because no single app tells the whole story.

But weather is only one piece of the puzzle.

I also want to know the route before I start:
• Where are the escape options?
• Which sections are exposed?
• Is there a shorter alternative if conditions change?
• How much time will I spend above the tree line?

And then comes the packing. Even when it’s 20–30°C in the valley, the mountains can feel completely different. Rain, wind, fog, and altitude can quickly turn a warm day into a cold one. That’s why a rain jacket and an extra layer are always in my backpack.

The mountains don’t care about the plan you made at home. Sometimes the best decision is to continue. Sometimes it’s to wait. And sometimes it’s to turn back. Getting home safely is always the real goal. 💚

DreiSeenWanderung 🌧️🏞️ (Brechsee & Krummersee & Kugletersee)

The day reminded me that mountains don’t care how many times you’ve checked the weather.

We refreshed the forecast countless times before starting. We knew rain was possible, but knowing the route, the escape options, and where to turn back mattered just as much as watching the clouds.

About 500 meters before our final destination, the heavy rain arrived. Within minutes, the view disappeared into fog.

Instead of rushing, we waited under a huge rock 😀 until the worst had passed. Then the light slowly returned, and we made it safely to the top and back down.

Sometimes the summit isn’t the biggest achievement. Making the right decision is.

Hohe & Kleine Aifnerspitze ⛰️

An 18.3 km loop with 1630 m of elevation gain led us through forest trails, alpine meadows, rocky ridges, and endless views.

One of my favorite things about this route was how much it kept changing. Every section felt different.

These are the mountains I remember the most—not because they’re the most famous, but because they make you feel like you’ve discovered something new for yourself.

Königssee – holiday kickoff 🏞️

The first day of our 9-day mountain holiday started at one of Bavaria’s most iconic places: Königssee.

Most people come here for the famous boat trip. We chose a different way and headed uphill instead.

A 14.1 km loop with 948 m of elevation gain took us through forest trails and viewpoints high above the lake.

Looking down at Königssee from above almost doesn’t feel real. The colors of the lake, the steep mountain walls, and the endless forests make this place feel like a postcard.

It was the perfect start to nine days filled with mountains, trails, lakes, waterfalls, and many more adventures still waiting ahead.

And finishing the trail right by the lake, cooling off in water that was just the right amount of cold, made the first day even more perfect.

Speichersee & Zwischenelendscharte ⛰️💙

Our last day of our July trip was all about “wow” and “awww” moments.

From Speichersee, a long and mostly flat trail leads toward the higher mountain paths, where the endless rocks and stones make you realize how huge the mountains really are.

Along the way, we had views of the glaciers slowly melting, feeding countless creeks, waterfalls, and ponds in the higher alpine area.

The weather was beautifully warm, and the day was full of unexpected little moments that made the perfect ending to our trip.

Schareck 3123 m 🔺
via Herzog-Ernst-Spitze ⛰️

This route is a short but exposed scrambling route to the summit. It is recommended only for experienced hikers who are comfortable with heights.

Go only in good weather conditions, as the rocks can be steep, slippery, and some sections are cable-secured.

Always assess the conditions carefully before starting and keep checking them throughout the climb.
