The league consists of handball clubs from Croatia, Hungary, North Macedonia, Slovakia and Serbia which compete in regional competition organized in above mentioned countries. The SEHA League was formed in 2011, at a time when a lot of teams from the region supported the initiative to make a high-quality handball competition with the best teams in the area. The idea to 'erase' the national borders
came to life after six national federations opened their doors to welcome the SEHA League. As SEHA League showed its potential to the handball world, a new partner has recognized the quality of the project and shortly before the 3rd season, the League signed a new sponsor. A global energy company Gazprom, based in Russia, has become a title sponsor, and since then SEHA League is known as the SEHA – Gazprom League. Throughout the years, there have been clubs from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Belarus, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, China, and Hungary competing in the League, while only four clubs have been a part of all ten seasons organized so far. Those are PPD Zagreb, Nexe, Tatran Presov and Vardar 1961.
