Eyes in the shadows. A silent guardian of the reef. 🌊🐍
The Mediterranean moray eel hides among the rocky reefs of Vela Luka, Croatia.
Despite its fierce appearance, it is a shy predator that spends most of its time in crevices, hunting fish and crustaceans after dark. Its constantly open mouth is not a threat — it’s how it pumps water over its gills to breathe.
With a powerful sense of smell and a second set of jaws inside its throat, the moray is perfectly adapted for life in the Adriatic.
A mysterious and fascinating resident of Croatia’s underwater world. 🇭🇷💙
