Some words mean more than any award ever could.

Everyone who comes to Korčula runs straight for the old town. And they should - it's beautiful! 🤩

But there's a place just outside it that doesn't make the postcards. Built in 1987. by Bernardo Bernardi, an architect born just down the road in Lumbarda, on a stretch of coast that was once a wooden shipyard. Today it's where we actually gather: kids play football on it in the evening, the Moreška still dances on its steps, and half the town shows up when there's music concert.

A tiny island near Lumbarda helped build some of the world's most recognized landmarks.

Vrnik sits just a short paddle from us - quiet, no ferry, no crowds. Beneath its pine trees and stone houses are 29 limestone quarries, some cliffs rising 40 meters, some carved entirely underground by hand.

A few facts we couldn't believe while researching:

1.Diocletian used Vrnik stone for his palace in Split

2. It built Dubrovnik's Rector's Palace, St. Blaise's Church, and the city clock tower

3. It traveled as far as Budapest, into the Hungarian Parliament Building

4. In 1482, architect Juraj Dalmatinac came in person to select Vrnik stone for Šibenik Cathedral, now UNESCO-listed

Sit-on-tops leave you balancing on top with no support, and they blow around in wind. Sit-in kayaks sit lower, cut through waves, and let you steer with your hips instead of your arms.
