The last few days have brought us some amazing nudibranch sightings on our dives. Every dive reveals a new underwater treasure, proving that the smallest creatures are often the most spectacular! 💙🌊

🦐💙 The Tiny Cleaner of Our House Reef! 💙🦐

Hidden among the tentacles of a sea anemone lives one of the hardest-working residents of our house reef – the Mediterranean Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata seticaudata).

Despite its small size, this colourful shrimp plays an important role on the reef. It feeds on parasites, dead tissue, and leftover food, helping to keep other marine animals healthy. It's nature's very own cleaning service!

During the day they often stay hidden deep inside crevices or among anemones, but as darkness falls they become much more active. That's why night dives on our house reef often reveal a completely different underwater world.

With a little patience and a careful eye, you'll discover that some of the reef's most fascinating creatures are also the smallest.

🦐 Fun Fact: Mediterranean cleaner shrimp are simultaneous hermaphrodites, meaning each adult has both male and female reproductive organs. They can take turns fertilizing each other's eggs, making their breeding strategy one of the most fascinating among crustaceans. They also communicate using their long white antennae, which help them navigate and interact in the dark.

🦞🌙 **Meet the "Hidden Lobster" of Our House Reef!** 🌙🦞

Most divers know the European lobster, but have you ever met its unusual cousin?

These are **European Slipper Lobsters (*Scyllarides latus*)**, one of the most elusive and exciting creatures found on our house reef.

Unlike true lobsters, slipper lobsters don't have large claws. Instead, they have broad, flattened antennae that look like little shovels, giving them their unmistakable appearance. During the day they hide deep inside rocky crevices, emerging after sunset to search for snails, clams, sea urchins and other small invertebrates.

Finding **one** is always a highlight of a dive. Finding **two together** is even more special!

Our house reef continues to surprise us, proving that every dive can reveal something extraordinary—especially after dark.

🦞 **Fun Fact:** The European slipper lobster is a **protected species** in many parts of the Mediterranean due to declining populations. They can live for many years, growing slowly and molting their hard shell as they mature. Because they spend most of the day hidden away, many divers never realize they're sharing the reef with these remarkable animals until they venture out on a night dive.

🌊🤍 Life Begins on Our House Reef! 🤍🌊

One of the stars of the Mediterranean has been busy!

This beautiful Dalmatian Doris (Peltodoris atromaculata) was spotted on our house reef laying eggs. The delicate yellow spiral behind the nudibranch is an egg ribbon containing thousands of tiny eggs that will eventually hatch into microscopic larvae before settling on the reef.

Despite their elegant appearance, these nudibranchs are surprisingly specialized feeders. They feed almost exclusively on certain species of sponges, making healthy reefs essential for their survival.

Seeing a Dalmatian Doris is always a highlight—but catching one in the act of laying eggs is something truly special. It's another reminder that our house reef is full of fascinating marine life, no matter how many times you dive it.
