Baggy Trouser Trekking

Baggy Trouser Trekking Baggy Trouser Trekking follows the hiking, guiding, and training exploits of Rich Leung in Hong Kong, Asia, and beyond.

The name for the company came to Rich after successfully completing the Japan Oxfam Trailwalker in 2013. Looking for some inspiration on how to keep the tempo of the hike going Rich started hit on the track by Madness called "Baggy Trousers", especially the end of the song. The cadence fit perfectly and the team found the song uplifting. Struggling with blisters for most of the trail the track was

what Rich needed to complete the course. Whenever "it" got tough Rich was able to replay the chorus and re-motivate himself. To pay tribute to the ordeal Rich decided to name the company Baggy Trouser Trekking. Hey, there are worse reasons for company names out there!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doFVHqXt4xk

Photos from my recent trip to HK. They cancelled Oxfam Trailwalker because of the terrible Tai Po fire. I'm not heartless by any means but I'm very disappointed that Trailwalker was cancelled. Off the back of that the team decided to reverse the HK Trail. The timing would have made it similar to the ending of Trailwalker with Liz and I finishing at the Peak before our programmed finishing time which was good. Good to catch up with people while I was there and I used the time to get the k's in on the hills.

Serious case of rain stopped play today. I want able to get out and do what I normally do to train but I've stopped at my regular bar to celebrate broaching the 4,000km point for this year. Yay me!

I'm not sure if the target calculation is correct because I've just changed my smashrun.com target from 4,500km for the year to 5,000km. My Google Sheet prediction is looking around 5,200km+ but I have Oxfam Trailwalker at the end of next month. Which that's 100km there is a bit of tapering either end so less predictable.

Anyone willing to donate, please visit the link below. I will be asking more formally closer to the event.

There was a time, earlier in my journey, that 3,000km was something that was tough to do. Then, for a few years, my target was 4,000km. Now, early October, and I am 19km away from that target. My target for the year is 5,000km, and I am on track for that with room to spare. Living in Bangkok has changed my profile somewhat where I am doing more km's but the terrain is much flatter.

Late upload of trip to HK. So good to be back in the hills. Silly me, I've managed to land a team for Oxfam Trailwalker. November 28! I'll be back training regularly but this one is going to be tough with no hills in Bangkok. I've previously been offered fire escapes up to 20 floors. I'm not sure what to do about the rest...!

There way a lot of chatter about heavy rain landing on us yesterday but it didn't happen in Bangkok. The same doesn't look like it can be said for today so I'm camping in a bar waiting to see what the heavens decide...

Catching up...
Training is pretty steady and very samey. The klong is still being renovated so I'm forced through the university to get to the park. It's not bad but that changes my Gatorade purchase somewhat and whether I need a second one before dinner.

Just like when they replaced the bridge to Benchakitti Park, mental health is taking a hit because of change of routine but I'm handling it better than before. Back to my iced tea and then I will go to the park for some more exercise. On that front I'm still struggling with my foot and my stomach issues but I'm doing much better since I've cried off beer. I'm also on target for 5,200km+ for this year. Also, from the end of January to now I've lost 7kg and under 90kg. I'm not celebrating that too much yet until it's consistent but I'm feeling better about me, physical health-wise at least...

Just buying some replacement shoes for these. Looking at my stats I have recorded 2,010km since I purchased this pair. While I have also worn other shoes for some of those k's, I use these all the times including for a lot of trips I don't record such as to and from the office, lunch, trips for supplies etc. Anecdotal, I know, but I reckon they've lasted for over 3,400km. Not bad for 5 months wear...
