Vikings and The Station partnership extended

It’s with great pleasure we can announce that HK Vikings and our home away from home, The Station Bar, today have agreed to continue the partnership for the coming 2020/21 season. The Station Bar is without a doubt one of the most vital elements of being able to run the team, and it goes without saying that everyone on HK Vikings are extremely excited that the doors of Station are open to us for another season, giving us the pleasure of winning every single 3rd half the coming year!

A big thanks from all of Vikings to everyone at The Station 🙏🏻🍻
SKÅL!!!

Players, followers and friends of HK Vikings, I think it's time for me to put on my PR hat (and sadly neglected duty so far) and provide an update of where we are after a so far dramatic 2019-20 season - with Danish students all with excellent football and social skills, protests and Covid-19.
HK Vikings have in the past had some fantastic student players coming over to help out on and off the pitch - especially during the autumn season and we have at times been in danger of promotion. Luckily the students normally leave around Christmas and we struggle to get players enough to finish the season in style. Plenty of weight and experience - not enough youth and quality.

Pre-Covid 19
This season was no different - with the slight difference that last autumn's student 'litter' was large enough to field their own team should they want to - AND they could ALL play football. No names mentioned, none forgotten but a league stat of all wins except 1 draw and no losses speaks it's own language. On top we almost doubled our spend at our sponsor hang-out, the Station, largely because of the youngsters.
Christmas 2019; reality hit.
One sole student survivor stayed behind and fought for the cause until Covid-19 finally killed the league for a couple of months. During that period we managed 4 games, 2 heavy losses to teams we would have smashed a month earlier, a 4-2 win and a disappointing 4-4 draw against a team that was almost as old as I......

And then Covid-19 hit.No football.

Post-Covid 19 #1 and 2:
We have manged to play 3 games during the last 3 weeks:
Lost deservedly 0-3 to Scottish Eagles.
Lost 1-7 to Irish Harps where we fell apart completely after 1-1 at half time.
Last Saturday we finally managed to win again: 5-0 against Shui Wei - fully deserved win.
We are still not able to train as the training ground is closed.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

The bad thing is that we most likely won't see any students coming our way this year.
The good is that we have 4 new Scandinavian signings, Thor (DK), John (NO), Erik and William (both SE) - all based in HK, eager to play and are definitely not shy during the 3rd half activities at Station!
We have also signed 3 good local players that are quite handy (Gordon, Sunny and Kevan) with Gordon scoring 2 goals in 3 games.
The ugly is that a majority in the team voted for us to play a play-off for promotion against the other top-5 teams in the league over the summer.... 38c, humidity % higher than the underwear of our players after a game - that will be fun.....
In the meantime Covid-19 #3 is now hitting HK hard so there is a good chance that the organizers will have to suspend the League again.
Lastly, we have secured our first sponsor deal for next season;
The Station is again showing their commitment to the cause. Many thanks to Dan and Mani.

Cleaning day at the Viking warehouse 🧹📦

Having been around the Vikings time for almost a decade, being manager and spiritual leader during most of that time, the glorious job as warehouse manager have followed.
The warehouse have grown over the years in physical but also sentimental inventory, among others all our league kits, from both SS League and Legal League from 2015 to now. On top of that there’s most of the Viking Cup shirts from 2011 to now. I’m sure I’m not the only one sitting back with a cheeky smile thinking about a lot of Viking Cup trips and league memories these shirts bring back when looking at them 😎

The warehouse is now taking up half of the warehouse managers guest room, and it may be time to consider trimming it a bit, but for now, let’s cheers to over 30 years of Vikings history in Hong Kong, and a wish that we may continue promoting football, great times and friendship for another 30 years! Skål!

Best Regards
The Warehouse Manager

Ps. Let’s not forget the sponsors that made all this happen, without their support we wouldn’t have been able to make ends meet. Thank you!🙏🏻
