Forty years later...
I saw director Yuen Woo-ping again at MoMA for the screening of Blades of the Guardian (it was incredible, btw!), four decades after he directed my first film, "Close Encounter with a Vampire." 🎬🎞
Most people have never heard of that title, but it came out of that strange era when Chinese hopping vampire movies were a whole genre: kung-fu, comedy, and horror rolled into one. I was a child working with him and the Yuen brothers in Taiwan with no idea how extraordinary that experience really was.🙏
After the screening, we went up to say hello. There was a crowd gathered behind us, but director Yuen bent all the way down to greet us warmly. It couldn't have been very comfortable for him, which made his warmth and graciousness all the more touching.💕
Forty years later, I managed to get the back of my head and our handshake into a photo with him. I'll take it.😂🤪
