PREMIER Soccer League chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele has received the backing of the topflight league clubs in his latest friction with the country’s supreme football body Zifa.

Zifa ordered an investigation into possible misconduct amid allegations that he undermined their authority through Press statements as well as writing letters to the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and the World League Forum.

Last week, the soccer controlling body wrote to the PSL boss demanding explanation for letters he allegedly wrote to the SRC and the World League Forum. He was also asked to answer questions relating to the Press statements he issued through the media, which they claim portrayed a negative view of the football association as well as failure to provide accounting information as had been requested by the association’s general secretary.

“The aforementioned information must be served at the association offices within seven days from the date of this letter. Note, in the event of failure to comply with the above, the association shall draw adverse inferences and will proceed to make a determination on the options available to it without an input from you,” Zifa wrote.

“Further, note that the letter herein does not constitute a charge for misconduct, but it’s merely investigative in nature meant to ascertain the facts from you.”

Although the association was quick to point out that Ndebele was not being charged but merely being asked to explain circumstances, PSL clubs view Zifa’s move as an attempt to pick a fight with the league after they were challenged, particularly in the manner they sought to distribute COVID-19 relief funds that came from Fifa and Caf.

There is a possibility that the planned PSL 2 weeks December mini-tournament might not take place as ZIFA President Felton Kamambo said they have not yet secured sponsorship for the tournament one week before December starts, the Chronicle reports.

Speaking to the Publication Kamambo painted a gloomy picture about the proposed mini tournament and said:

We can’t confirm the kick-off date for now. A lot is being done to make sure this bio-bubble tournament goes on.

We have approached a number of corporates for funding, but nothing concrete has come out. The PSL is: looking for potential sponsors as well. It is s:till work in progress.

A football official has suggested that the National Team’s coach should move around assessing players should the mini-tournament fail:

Failure to have games played will lead to serious cries when some the Chan squad is announced. Already, there are some who are spreading rumors that the Chan squad has been selected but on what merit will these players be called up?

Will they use history or what? Let the coach have a long camp or move around and monitor players while they train. Maybe that way, they can justify whatever selection that will be done without competition

In other news, the U17 national team was disqualified from a COSAFA tournament for allegedly falsifying the ages of their player(s).

ZIMBABWE international forward Tino Kadewere is making such a huge impression at Olympique Lyon, he is now regarded as the player to watch out for among the recruits who arrived in the French Ligue 1, this season.

Clubs in Europe’s fifth best top-flight league splashed about US$530 998 943.12 in transfer expenditure, before the start of this season.

They brought in players from Italy, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, England, Brazil, Turkey, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and a host of other countries.

The players were recruited from clubs like Inter Milan, Sevilla, FC Porto, AS Roma, FC Barcelona, Everton, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Sampdoria, RB Leipzig, Leicester City, Wolves and Southampton to name but a few.

And, in that ocean of talent in Europe’s fifth strongest top-flight football league, Kadewere has emerged as the player the officials believe is the one to look out for, among those who arrived this season.

The Warriors forward is one of the 278 foreigners in French Ligue 1, which represents 48,7 percent of its composition, whose total market value is about US$4.09 billion.

Paris St Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe, is the Most Valuable Player worth about US$213.83 million.(

Kadewere, who turns 25 on January 5 next year, has been making waves at Lyon, defying expectations from many seasoned analysts, who believed he was going to find the transition, into one of Europe’s top leagues, a difficult task.

Overnight, he has become the Zimbabwean footballer attracting most of the headlines, around the world, and three league goals in his last two matches, have propelled him firmly into the limelight.

Four goals, including two against record 10-time French Ligue 1 champions, AS Saint Etienne, in the Derby Rhone-Alpes, and an assist, in his last five league) matches, have catapulted Kadewere into second place, on his team’s scoring charts, after Dutch star Memphis Depay.
