What’s behind the process of TENCEL™ Modal?

TENCEL™ Modal fibers are produced with a molecular marker. This special identification technology ensures the authenticity and traceability of TENCEL™ fibers.

And it starts at the source: the wood used as raw material for all TENCEL™ Modal fibers is sourced from certified or controlled wood sources. The production process matters too. The TENCEL™ Modal production process is based on a highly resource-efficient technology with high recovery rates of chemicals.

That’s traceability and responsibility you can verify – not just claim.

According to the Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), TENCEL™ Modal has a significantly lower environmental impact than generic modal; they are made with at least 50% less carbon emissions and water consumption.*

How do natural and regenerated cellulosic materials behave in different environmental conditions?

An independent study by HYDRA Marine Sciences tested cellulosic fibers across 177 specific scenarios, covering laboratory, mesocosm, and natural environments. The result?

Lyocell, modal and viscose biodegrade comparably to natural cellulose – in soil, freshwater, and marine environments alike.
