Sea Cucumbers Dragon Boat Team Mission Statement
The Sea Cucumbers Dragon Boat Team is a competitive team. We are a highly motivated team who also believes in celebrating our success with as much passion as we train. If you join our team, there is the expectation that you will attend at least one boat training session per week as well as maintain your own fitness regime. We will provide support f
or development of both your fitness and your technical stroke. Besides having fun, making friends, exercising our butts off, and working together to beat the living daylights out of the competition, we are here to develop and perform at our highest levels. We come from all walks of life, all ages and from various backgrounds. As such, we each have distinct (and for some, crazy) personalities. Even so, we treat each other as equals and celebrate our unique strengths. Come race day, it is our policy to put our fastest boat on the water as possible. Seats will be awarded to paddlers based on the following priorities:
Race day rules are adhered to i.e., minimum numbers of male/female paddlers are seated first so as to meet the rules of the day. This includes but is not limited to any ban imposed by the organiser of an event against paddlers competing in consecutive races. Once minimums have been met, the remainder of seats shall be filled to maximise our balance and power. Whereby balance is determined by a paddler's weight, skill, power, reach and position in the boat. With all things being equal, priority shall be given to those paddlers with a proven record of practice attendance and commitment to the team. The Sea Cucumber Team is always striving to better ourselves as athletes while contributing to team unity and excellence. We do so by adhering to the following values:
SPORTSMANSHIP - We compete to win, but in the process, we play fair and display courtesy. We are only as strong as our weakest link - we paddle together and learn that together we are more than the sum of our individual strengths. RESPECT - We appreciate and maintain high regard for one another. The front of the boat, the engine room, the back of the boat, the drummer, the steersman, the captain, the coachβ¦everyone counts, everyone matters. OUTRAGEOUSNESS - We laugh, poke fun, socialise and we do so together, reveling in our friendship. GUTS - We brave the rough currents, wind, rain and the cold and hot temperatures because nothing will stop us from training our bodies and our minds (except for lightning, of course!)
