🕊 Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers
1949 – 2026

We are deeply saddened at the passing of Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers on 29 January 2026. He was a cherished figure in the world of polo, both in the U.K. and internationally, and his loss will be felt by many across the global polo community.

Nicholas’s passion for polo began in the late 1960s while serving in the Australian public service, where he first took up the sport. After moving to England, he joined the British Army and continued to play for the Army Polo Team.

Nicholas made an immense contribution to polo through leadership roles that shaped the sport’s development and governance. He was Chairman of the HPA from 2009-2012, President of the FIP from 2014-2018, and Chairman of Ham Polo Club for over 20 years. He remained actively involved with the HPA, serving on the Finance & Grants Committee and attending many HPA events, including presenting prizes on International Day and for the Stagshead Trophy.

Beyond his formal roles, Nicholas was known for his unwavering dedication, vision, and enthusiasm for the sport; his commitment both on and off the field encouraged polo’s growth at club, national, and international levels. He was also an avid collector of polo history and art, amassing a remarkable archive that reflected his lifelong love of the sport.

Outside polo, Nicholas had a distinguished professional career in international business, including leading the UK Division of the FAL Group. He was also married to his beloved wife, Annie, for 35 years until her passing in 2021.

The polo community, and especially the HPA, were incredibly fortunate to benefit from his stewardship, integrity, and passion. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in the sport he loved so much. We are grateful to have enjoyed so many memorable moments with him over the years and he will be deeply missed by players, colleagues, and friends around the world.
