【Senior student on free pads】Power + reaction + distance control — not easy at all for a senior!
Post Description:
Today I trained this senior male student on free pads.
Free pads isn't about hitting fixed combinations —
it's about following the pad's movement,
judging distance, rhythm, and reaction on your own.
For a senior, this drill is NOT simple.
He had to manage:
✅ Power — punches must have real force, not weak taps
✅ Reaction — the moment the pad moves, he must strike
✅ Distance control — know when to step in and when to step out
✅ Rhythm — stay composed, follow the beat
At first, he struggled —
reactions were slow, distance was off,
sometimes he swung at air.
I told him:
"Don't rush. Take your time.
You're not trying to be fast —
you're trying to be accurate.
Accuracy comes first. Then power."
After a few rounds,
he started to find the rhythm,
his punches regained power, reactions got faster,
and his distance control started to show.
For seniors, boxing isn't about speed — it's about precision.
He did it. I'm proud.
