剛過去學年在大學碩士班教授了一科「訓練學」(Coaching Science)，有幸與幾位本地資深體能教練和科研人員合作。當中，有一個有趣的概念一直貫穿整系列課堂，乃就是「訓練的藝術」(The ART of Coaching)。

要成為一位出色成功的訓練人員，擁有紮實的運動科學根基是重要的，這有助鍛煉邏輯思考，同時對運動項目本身和人體生理有更深入瞭解。但在現實體育世界裏工作，只熟讀科學理論仍不足夠，「軟技巧」(soft skills)的配合往往是脫穎而出的關鍵。以下是參考自 《Science for Sport》有關優秀訓練人員應具備的特質:

- 經驗與嘗試(experience/ failing)
- 靈活與適應(flexibility/adaptability)
- 創意 (creativity)
- 領導能力 (leadership)
- 溝通回饋 (feedback)
- 人際關係 (relationship)
- 運動員的認同 (athletes’ buy in)

舉例說，我們可以很容易在網上或教科書上找到各類型訓練的「指引」(guideline)。這些資訊無疑能提供參考，但在真正實務層面，訓練人員又有否:

- 具備足夠經驗，能因應運動員的能力水平和背景靈活變通，因材施教？

- 在設定計劃時加入創意，讓學員更投入享受？

- 具備出色的溝通技巧，能夠給予清晰指引之餘，亦能聆聽學員的需要？

- 擁有良好的人際網絡，能與工作周邊的人 (如同事、家長和合作夥伴) 保持友好關係?

- 具備領導能力，營造良好隊內氣氛，贏得他們的尊重，使隊員願意遵從指令，更落力付出？

由此可見，要讓教學得以更有效進行， 訓練人員可思考如何在實務上巧妙地同時融入「科學」和「藝術」元素，這樣才能發揮訓練的極致，令運動員獲得最大裨益。

"2021 might have been discouraging and tearful at times. But we feel very much blessed and grateful when we recall the last decade - we all became a stronger self after surviving all those bumpy years.

The time ahead is likely to be even more challenging and unpredictable under the shadow of COVID. But we will keep our faith for a big recovery and I really look forward to seeing the day when we can finally remove our masks.

2022 is around the corner - let’s cross our hands for our better tomorrow!"
