Updraft Paragliding

It’s been 2 years since Updraft Paragliding opened its doors. From the beginning, our mission has always been not just to help build the new generation of paragliding pilots in Hong Kong but to also support our schools’ instructors as athletes during competitions. We are happy to announce that, with the relaxation of the Covid restrictions in Hong Kong, some of our pilots have been able once again to participate in competitions at the international level!
Last week, Herman was able to compete at the PWC Asian Tour in Mungyeong, Korea, flying his Enzo 3 under the Hong Kong banner joined by 3 other pilots from Hong Kong – Dixon, Jackie, and Calvin! Despite not having flown XC or competitions for over 3 years, he achieved an impressive result and ranked 14th out of 122 pilots. We are very happy to be able to have a part in sponsoring and offering support to him. Here’s what he had to say about this recent competition.
"It's been almost 3 years since I've flown in a competition due to Covid. When I found out that 3+4 became 0+3 (HK inbound quarantine rules) I became more determined to once again pursue competition flying and was able to finally register for the Paragliding World Cup Asian Tour in Mungyeong, South Korea. I could finally look forward to race with my flying buddies and other top-level pilots from other countries. Having only flown in Hong Kong in the last few years, I found I was quite rusty with my flight computer, task setting, and even piloting skills - I told myself early on not to have any high expectations for this competition and that there was much left to improve again, but my luck didn't turn out so bad and ended up 14th out of 122 pilots. I must thank my wife for taking care of the kids back home. I also have to thank my school Updraft Paragliding for sponsoring some of my expenses for this trip. I also wish more Hong Kong pilots could participate in competitions, so that we may all improve our flying level together!"
