The event drew participation from invitational teams representing The Law Society of Hong Kong ้ฆๆธฏๅพๅธซๆ and La Salle College Old Boysโ Association. Organisational and safety support was provided by Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Charity Foundation, Speedo Hong Kong and Ngai Hoi Swimming Pool Services Company Limited.
The team led by Alex Fong (Class of 1997) completed the course in 18 hours and 7 minutes, finishing at 10:07 a.m. on 8 November 2025, and the other team led by Sun Fat Yee (Class of 1996), former Asian Games representative, completed in 18 hours and 38 minutes. Both invitational teams also finished shortly afterwards.
Swimmers faced complex tidal conditions, strong winds, challenging waves, and the added difficulty of overnight navigation in near-total darkness - factors that significantly elevated the technical demands of the challenge.
4 current students - elite open water swimmers Lee Jaiden, Chui Hoi Hang, Chong Regan, and Yu Shing Hin - escorted the teams at the start of the course, demonstrating intergenerational continuity within the school community.
"4 years ago, we set a world record circumnavigating Hong Kong Island. Today, we completed an even more challenging swim around Lantau Island," said Fong. "The 70 km route featured complex tidal uncertainty, and the overnight component presented an ultimate test of endurance and persistence."
The teams embodied the Josephian spirit of โForward, nor flinch nor fearโ as immortalised in their school song.

The event raised nearly HK$1 million for the schoolโs charity foundation, to support the schoolโs needs not covered by government funding. Part of the proceeds will also be allocated to support underprivileged children and those with special needs through Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) Charity Foundation, for subsidising uniformed group training, swimming instruction, water survival skills, and other aquatic sports programmes.
Eugene Wong (Class of 1997), convenor of the organising committee, emphasised the broader significance, โThis challenge showcases Hong Kong's immense potential in innovative sporting challenges. We look forward to further collaboration with the government and other organisations to explore different possibilities in this area.โ
