A community eventually outgrows its reflection ✨
When this mural was first painted, it captured a moment in the story of The Gathering Garden.
It reflected the heart of a community built around movement, play, trust, creativity, and connection. It witnessed thousands of hours of training, friendships being formed, challenges being overcome, and countless moments that helped shape this space into what it is today.
And we loved it for that.
But over time, something beautiful happened.
The Gathering Garden continued to grow.
What began as a space where people gathered primarily to move gradually became a home for so much more. Workshops, retreats, ceremonies, concerts, performances, wellness experiences, community gatherings, markets, celebrations, cultural events, and countless meaningful encounters all found a place here.
Little by little, the story became bigger than what the mural originally represented.
Not because the mural was wrong.
But because the community had grown beyond its reflection.
Changing it was not an easy decision.
The original artwork carried memories, meaning, and many moments that helped shape our community. Many conversations went into deciding how to honor what it represented while creating space for what The Gathering Garden was becoming.
One of the most significant changes was transforming the identifiable figures at the center of the mural into more universal forms.
The intention was simple:
We wanted anyone who arrived here to feel that they belonged.
Whether they come for movement, music, art, learning, wellness, celebration, culture, or connection.
Whether they are locals or travelers. Teachers or students. Artists, musicians, performers, healers, dreamers, or simply people looking for community.
Today, when someone stands in front of the mural, we hope they don’t just see a painting.
We hope they see a place where they are welcome.
A place shaped by many people, many stories, and many ways of coming together.
The mural evolved, just as the community did.
And in many ways, it continues to grow alongside all of us.
