Guatemala's beautiful Lake Atitlan should be on every traveler's must-visit list. It offers an amazing array of activities, from hiking, volcano climbing, kayaking and standup paddling to yoga retreats, shopping for Mayan textiles and just lounging by the lake in gorgeous resorts.

We lost one of our team last week. Antonio of Xocomil Tours provided our ground transportation, and his office was (and will continue to be) the meeting place for our clients as they arrive at Lake Atitlan. Antonio was a good man, and we will miss him. Condolances to his family as they grieve their loss. Antonio's death was NOT Covid related.

This family was our first to tour Lake Atitlan by kayak since COVID happened. We practiced social distancing, wore our masks when in close proximity, and sanitized all the gear before they arrived. It felt very good to be back at work and helping visitors make the most of their time in our area.

We are so super stoked to be sharing this beautiful sunrise with our first INTERNATIONAL guests since mid-March. Thank you Diego Gonzales and friends from Florida, USA. This feels so GOOD to share Guatemala and Lake Atitlan with new friends again.

Chasing the tallest and most active volcanos in Guatemala with Troels & Thomas Johnk. In a series of nearly back-to-back treks, these crazy Danes summited Pacaya, Acatenango, Fuego, Atitlan, Santa Maria, and Tajumulco. All active or dormant volcanos. In one example, they climbed Tajumulco, the highest peak/volcano in Central America up and back in less than 5 hours (average time is 8 hours). Atitlan up and back in 7 hours (average time is 10 hours). Total elevation gain for the 6 treks was over 20,000 vertical feet in 7 days. Oh, and they took one "rest day" to trek the back side of Volcan Atitlan to see the Resplendent Quetzal. Quite an accomplishment and a great father/son adventure. Los Elementos Adventure Center served as home base, logistical center, and laundry. Lee served as driver, fixer, coordinated with a variety of guides including the team at Quetzaltrekkers with Benji as volcano guide and Kanak'Che Outdoors with Esteban as volcano guide.
