I have only recently been introduced to coconut oil myself, as I was told that it is better that olive oil in terms of cooking and frying it in high temperatures. However, I was raised to know and use olive oil as the base of my diet and cooking. Perhaps it is easy to assume that Mediterranean people have been using, are using and most likely will be using olive oil as the main component of their everyday cooking as well consumption in general. Various opinions have been raised in terms of whether or not olive oil is actually as good as everyone is making sound to be. Well up until now, that is what I believed too.
Nevertheless, when coconut oil was brought to my attention, I started using it, as I was curious to see if it would have any sort of positive or negative impact on my diet. Whether it would be good or not. Whether it would appear healthier, or not.
Even up to this day, I am not quite sure. However I haven't seen any negative changes or impact on my diet or my health.
I came upon this article, while researching for nutrition advice and healthy eating, like I usually do and I believe there is a certain controversy between those two oils.
It is helpful and useful to know whether or not certain oils or foods are good or bad for your health and how you should use them in order to bring out their best qualities. For example there are nutritionists and dietitians who back up and recommend coconut oil, while on the meantime, there are others who do the same for olive oil. Now, this begs the question: Which one is best for me to use? Or even: Which one is healthier and works better cooked or raw. I am sure you can always find more questions to ask. Although, I always tend to ask whether or not it suits my diet and works better alongside everything else I consume. This article provides you with a better insight to those questions. However, whether or not someone will actually use this knowledge, is up to that person's personal preferences.
In my opinion, we should aim to consume and use the food we are provided, with moderation and care. I am aware that people tend to overlook or forget to check the nutritional value of the food they usually consume. Nonetheless, it is important to know at least the basics of what we are given and we like to put on our everyday table. So be considerate but also don't forget to enjoy your food. Take care, and be healthy!
Trendy foods come and go, but coconut oil, well, it's stuck around. We have to ask: does it really live up to all the hype?
