Το Spetses mini Marathon (SMM) ξεκίνησε το 2011 και φέτος γιορτάζει τα 10 χρόνια από την ίδρυσή του. Ήταν εκείνη η χρονιά που η ιδρύτρια και διοργανώτρια, Μαρίνα Κουταρέλλη, έκανε πράξη την ιδέα της για ένα πρωτοποριακό αθλητικό γεγονός στην επαρχία. Σε αυτά τα δέκα χρόνια διαρκούς προσπάθειας και βελτίωσης της διοργάνωσης από την Μαρίνα Κουταρέλλη και την ομάδα της, ο αγώνας έχει πάρει παγκόσμιες

διαστάσεις, καθώς φιλοξενεί αθλητές από 42 διαφορετικές χώρες και δικαίως έχει χαρακτηριστεί «σταθµός» στον Αθλητικό Τουρισµό. Πλέον, το Spetses mini Marathon συγκεντρώνει κάθε χρόνο περισσότερους συμμετέχοντες, αλλά και επισκέπτες, με τον πιο πρόσφατο αριθμό να φτάνει τους 18.000 ταξιδιώτες στο νησί των Σπετσών και μάλιστα σε περίοδο off season.

Η σπουδαιότητα και η επιτυχία του Spetses mini Marathon, αποδεικνύεται και από το ότι έχει καταστεί ένας θεσµός – ορόσηµο για την τοπική κοινότητα των Σπετσών, την οποία έχει µπολιάσει µε νέες αξίες. Έχει εµφυσήσει σε αυτή νέα πνοή, υποστηρίζοντάς την οικονοµικά, κοινωνικά και πολιτιστικά. Η σχέση είναι από την πρώτη στιγµή αµφίδροµη, µε τους Σπετσιώτες να έχουν αγκαλιάσει το SMM ως αναπόσπαστο κοµµάτι της ζωής του νησιού, όχι µόνο κατά την περίοδο διεξαγωγής του, αλλά καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του χρόνου. Με πρωτεργάτη τον Δήµο Σπετσών, οι εθελοντές και οι φορείς του νησιού συνδράµουν ουσιαστικά σε αυτήν την µεγάλη προσπάθεια, τόσο του SMM όσο και του Tριάθλου (Spetsathlon).

Οργανωτική Επιτροπή, χορηγοί, εθελοντές, σπουδαίοι επαγγελματίες και ερασιτέχνες αθλητές, έχουν βάλει την υπογραφή τους, σε αυτή την εξέλιξη του θεσμού. Το Spetses mini Marathon, πιστό στις επιταγές της εποχής και τις ανάγκες των συμμετεχόντων του, θα συνεχίσει να εξελίσσεται για τη διατήρησή του στην κορυφή.
