International Schools Girls U'19s Football tournament.
Byron College 2 Campion 0 Oraina Awartani & Stephanie Mykoniatis
A great start to the competition. First half we were a little sluggish but 2nd half we started to play and pass the ball around well and scored two good goals.
Byron College 3 ACS 2 Stephanie Mykoniatis 1 & Katie Vandorou 2
This was a match that made me very proud as a coach. We outplayed ACS for 3/4 of the game but found ourselves 2-1 down with 5 minutes remaining. It was cruel as their goals were a deflected shot and an unlucky own goal. My girls did the school and themselves proud with 2 great goals by Katie Vandorou in the last 5 minutes to win the match and the group.
FINAL Byron College 0 St. Lawrence 0 ( St Law won 2-1 on pens.)
The final was disappointing as we had much the better of the play but just could not put the ball in the net. We lost on a sudden death penalty shootout which was cruel but I am still very proud of my girls.
We played a couple of 11yr olds in the team and one of them ( Stephanie Mykoniatis ) came out as joint top scorer with our own Katie Vandorou.
It was a disappointing result as it was the final year for a few of my girls, particularly Anna Athanasiadis, Katie Vandorou and Lisa Raptodimos as they have been representing the school successfully for many years. I thank them so much for all their efforts and the success and the recognition they have brought to the Byron College girls football teams. Its because of them that we have so many great young girl players at Byron. They are great role models and I am proud to have been their coach. They have plenty of medals to take away with them, to remind them of the great days they spent playing football for Byron.
