Η καταστροφή στην ευρύτερη περιοχή της Πρέβελης, στην Κρήτη, είναι απερίγραπτη. Φαντάζομαι πως το ίδιο ισχύει και πιο πέρα, στις Μέλαμπες και σχεδόν σε όλο το ανατολικό νότιο Ρέθυμνο.
Χθες είδα από μακριά το μέγεθος της καταστροφής. Σήμερα θα πάω να δω από κοντά τι ακριβώς έχει συμβεί.
Κάποιοι πάλεψαν με τον κόκκινο δράκο και, με τη βοήθεια της τύχης – ή των θεών, όπως θέλει να το πει ο καθένας – κατάφεραν να σώσουν τα σπίτια τους. Ο πατέρας μου ήταν ένας από αυτούς.
Κάποιοι άλλοι, όμως, έχασαν τα πάντα, καθώς ο πύρινος δράκος που κατέβαινε από το βουνό έμοιαζε ανίκητος.
Η Σοφία, μαζί με τον γιο της, είναι μέλος της οικογένειας του WDP και της ομάδας Taiji στο Ρέθυμνο. Δυστυχώς, είναι από τους ανθρώπους που έχασαν τα πάντα και αυτή τη στιγμή χρειάζονται τη στήριξή μας.
Όπως μπορεί ο καθένας, με ό,τι μπορεί. Αν δεν υπάρχει η οικονομική δυνατότητα, τότε ακόμη και μια απλή προώθηση της προσπάθειας μπορεί να κάνει τη διαφορά.
Νιώθω βαθιά ευγνωμοσύνη που δεν χάθηκαν ανθρώπινες ζωές. Δυστυχώς, πολλά ζωάκια δεν στάθηκαν το ίδιο τυχερά...

Yesterday I saw the destruction from a distance. Today I will go there to see with my own eyes what has truly happened.
Some people fought the red dragon and, with the help of luck—or the gods, if you prefer to call it that—managed to save their homes. My father was one of them.
Others, however, lost everything, as the fiery dragon descending from the mountain seemed impossible to defeat.
Our friend Sofia, together with her son, is part of the WDP family and the Taiji group in Rethymno. Sadly, they are among those who lost everything and now need our support.

I am deeply grateful that no human lives were lost. Sadly, many animals were not as fortunate...
Let us hope that nature will surprise us once again with its incredible ability to heal and regenerate, as it always has.
