When we launched the ALFC internship program, the goal was simple: create an opportunity for passionate divers to experience what life inside a professional freediving environment actually looks like. Now, our first two interns are here.

Jake arrived from Canada, Kevin from the United States, and over the past weeks they’ve become part of the daily rhythm of the center. Training, assisting, learning, spending long hours in and around the water, and discovering everything that makes Kalamata such a special place to live and dive.

As Jake puts it:

“Life in Kalamata has been wonderful. The calm, still mornings are the perfect way to wake up every day. Adjusting to the cooler water temperatures has been easier than expected as the ocean heats up heading into summer, and my coach’s focus on technique improvement gives me confidence that reaching my PB depths again will come easily when I’m ready. In the afternoons, I love hopping on my bike and trying new tavernas and coffee shops around town, and catching the sunset from the shop.”

For Kevin, the experience has been just as memorable:

“From the moment I arrived in Greece, I was welcomed with incredible hospitality by the Alchemy team. Kalamata has completely raised my expectations for food, lifestyle, and the daily pace of life. Souvlaki is officially a permanent part of my life now. Training with ALFC has been an amazing experience. There is a strong sense of passion, teamwork, and support both in and out of the water. I came here with very little experience, but being surrounded by patient and passionate people has helped me grow more confident every day.”

This is only the beginning. Two more interns will be joining us later in the season, and we look forward to watching their own Kalamata story unfold.

Lung Stretches For Freediving

Join South African freediver, instructor, and yoga teacher Natalie Rudman as she shares essential lung and diaphragm stretching techniques used to improve flexibility, increase breath-hold potential, and prepare the body for deeper dives. By enhancing ribcage expansion and pressure adaptation, these exercises can help you take fuller breaths, dive more efficiently, and push your performance to the next level.

A few days ago, we traded training goals for exploration. No line. No stopwatch. No numbers to chase.

Tucked beneath the cliffs of Kardamyli, we spent the day exploring underwater caves, narrow passages, hidden chambers, and shafts of light cutting through the darkness. No depth targets. No training schedules. Just curiosity, good company, and the simple joy of seeing what waits around the next corner.

Sometimes the best dives aren’t about going deeper. They’re about remembering why you fell in love with the ocean in the first place.

Hands-Free Equalization

Curious why some freedivers can equalize without struggle and others can't? Explore the science, psychology, and underwater adaptations that make this possible.

Why do some freedivers equalize hands-free while others struggle for years? Explore the science, psychology, and underwater adaptation behind one of freediving’s most misunderstood skills.

Most people think freediving is all deep dives, and epic footage.

Sometimes it is. And sometimes it’s a group of grown adults standing in the sun measuring meters of rope, then measuring it again, just to make sure.

Not every day in freediving looks cinematic. But every great dive is built on the details nobody sees.

Meet The First ALFC Interns

There is something important about being first. The first people who arrive before everything feels finished. Before routines become automatic. Before systems become invisible. Before a place develops history, reputation, and familiarity. The first people step into uncertainty. They become part of the process itself.

Over the past weeks, our first two interns arrived in Kalamata to begin exactly that experience. One traveled from the United States. The other from Canada. Different backgrounds, different stories, different paths into freediving, yet both arrived for the same reason. They wanted to experience what daily life inside a serious freediving environment actually looks like.

Follow the first two ALFC interns from the US and Canada as they step inside the daily reality of a serious freediving training base in Kalamata, experiencing the systems, structure, and culture behind high-level progression.

Most freediving lines stretch when they get wet and come under load. Sometimes by a few centimeters. Sometimes by much more. So we measured ours. Dry. Wet. Under tension.

The result? Exactly 50 meters before. Exactly 50 meters after. No surprises. No corrections. No guessing where the plate really is.

When you’re training for depth, consistency matters. That’s why we built a rope that stays true to its length, dive after dive.
