It's a week now since arriving home from another fantastic trip to the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ
This is another great little video from one of our group members (Helen) of a new trek that we will be offering as part of our programme next year. It offers something a little different and was a big hit with the group.

If anyone would like to join us next year please dm us with your email address for more information. Next year's provision will include options for anyone not wanting to tackle the specific challenge of Mount Toubkal (4167m). The new variation to our programme will hopefully enable more people to join us on these incredible trekking holidays and experience the magic of the High Atlas Mountains. Whether you're setting your sights on the highest mountain in North Africa or would prefer a less strenuous trekking experience; our trips always include stunning views, traditional Berber villages, flora, fauna, incredible Moroccan culture and hospitality, great food and still allows plenty of time by the pool! Whatever your personal goals are, we've got the perfect blended programme for you. ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆโค๏ธ

Yesterday was another hot day and our final day of trekking. Some of the group chose a trek which included summitting a local peak, some completed a trek through a local village and visited the waterfalls and some enjoyed a relaxing day at our fabulous riad (including time in the pool! ๐Ÿ˜Ž). As mentioned in yesterday's post, we should have been making a summit attempt of Jebel Toubkal yesterday, but the unseasonably late winter conditions on the mountain unfortunately put paid to our plan A. Thankfully we always have A plan B, C and D, and despite this being the first time we haven't been able to summit (in 15 years!) we made the most of the days. Even without Mount Toubkal, it's still been a great trip as the trekking in this magical region of Morocco is world class. The group have been great too and we hope to see some of them back next year. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ

We are planning a variation to our trips in 2027 and are looking to cater both for people who would like to attempt Mount Toubkal (4167m), the highest mountain in North Africa, and people who prefer less challenging treks.

Well, the weather has finally come good in the High Atlas with hot weather yesterday and today. Unfortunately it's arrived too late for a Mount Toubkal summit attempt this year. Everyone here is saying the weather this spring is the worst in 15 years. This certainly fits with my experience in Morocco. I've been running these trips for almost 15 years and this will be the first year that we haven't summitted. Toubkal remains in unseasonably late winter conditions, with crampons being needed from the refuge. Instead of heading to the refuge hut yesterday as planned, we completed a fantastic trek from the Imlil valley across to the Ouirgane Valley and reservoir. This is a stunning walk, with varied terrain, interesting flora and fauna, traditional villages and stunning views.
Today we offered the group two different treks, one which included a summit of a local peak. Photos will follow. It's always disappointing when you have to pull back from your intended goals in the mountains, but good judgement, being willing to make the tough calls and having contingency plans in place is what keeps us safe. Jebel Toubkal will still be here next year and we will be back. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ

Day 4. Always a favourite of our treks from Imlil, this circuit includes the ascent and descent of two high passes and fascinating glimpses of traditional village life in the stunning and remote Imenane valley. It's a privilege to experience these villages and spend time in such a beautiful valley. As we wandered down through the village of Tinerhourhine we were greeted with smiles and offers of mint tea before watching women doing their laundry in the river as we sat and ate our packed lunches in idyllic surroundings. It really is a world class trek this one and is interesting throughout. It's also a fairly long trek (including refreshment breaks we were on the go for 9 hours yesterday). The group did fantastic again and are enjoying a well deserved rest day today. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Day 3. After a couple of cool and cloudy days we were treated to stunning conditions this morning. Perfect for our trek up to the Tasserimoute plateau (2600m). A storm last night resulted in fresh snow high up and an impressive Alpine-like backdrop. Great performances from the group again today. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Day 2 in Imlil and an enjoyable local trek which eventually descends through the traditional Amazigh village of Aroumd. It's always an interesting wander through this lovely village and great for catching glimpses of real mountain village-life. The weather was unseasonably cool and cloudy again today, but thankfully the forecast is for sunshine tomorrow and for temperatures to rise over the coming days. We step things up over the next two days, with more height gain, longer treks and more challenging mountain terrain as we prepare and acclimatise for a possible Mount Toubkal summit attempt next week. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Despite the unseasonably cool and cloudy conditions it's great to be back in Imlil. And it was good to get the first day of trekking under our belts today with an enjoyable walk up to Tizi Tamatert (2300m) for lunch. Strong performances all around and good craic throughout from a great group.
The forecast is a bit of a mixed bag over the coming week and plans will need to be fluid, but we're looking forward to our time trekking with the group in this magical region of Morocco. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ
