Summer is the hottest season of the year, the season of light and heat, the fire element and Yang energy at its peak: expansion, richness, manifestation.
Energy has extended itself as far as it can go, out into the flowers and fruit of each plant; animals and birds have reared their broods of young.
I love summers the most, of course. I love not wearing much clothes, I love the heat, I love sweating. I love that I live by the sea too, because I wouldn’t want all of that in the city. 😂
For me, this summer, with all its Yang energy, manifested into something much more subtle a new layer that I had only dreamt of for myself.
This area of in between, where I no longer look for the highs and lows to feel alive.
And while I didn’t consciously know it, I’ve been working through deep shadows and childhood patterns that shaped this way of existing for most of my adult life. Now I feel I’ve stepped into a new layer, where the choices I make about what is good for me come from my own awareness. From the strength of my own temple. From knowing myself well enough to choose what feels right for me.
And it feels good. Liberating, actually.
Having boundaries. Saying no. Choosing who I spend my time with. And, most importantly, being really, really good with myself.
I don’t need saving. I don’t need someone to fill a void.
In contrast, I’d say all my summers before this one were always much more full of drama and action. I’d fall right into that driving energy of the sun, and I thought that was good for me.
And while I absolutely don’t want to rob myself of crazy, awesome experiences, I also don’t want to use them to justify the quality of how I spend my time.
So this summer has held some subtle, quiet, heart filling moments.
It’s new territory I’ve been navigating.
Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s wisdom. Maybe it’s growth, healing, food, practice… probably all of it.
But I’m just really happy to feel this progress. This stable feeling of being that I’ve longed for.
You can’t force it. :)
But every seed grows its roots.
It just needs to be watered, attended to, and cared for through discipline and the simple act of showing up for yourself, every single day. 🌱
