🕯️🐘 There’s a cave in Crete where elephants once walked. And now, you can swim where they roamed
Discovered only in 1999 by a local spearfisherman named Manolis Efthymakis, the Elephant Cave stayed hidden for thousands of years. A year later, the Greek Speleological Society explored it — and found fossils of elephants and dwarf deer, over 60,000 years old. 🧭✨
Today, you can see them with your own eyes. Vertebrae, teeth, even a tusk. All while floating through crystal-clear water, surrounded by ancient stalactites that took millennia to form.
