The Journey of a Lifetime – Thalassa Diving Academy in Kenya
There are trips that relax you, others that excite you…
and then there are those rare journeys that change you.
Our 12-day expedition to Kenya with Thalassa Diving Academy – 13 people, one life-changing experience – belongs unmistakably to the third category.
Rhino Watch – Waking Up in the Heart of Nature
From the moment we arrived in Nairobi, something inside us began to open.
Africa welcomed us with colors, scents, smiles, and a raw beauty that words can hardly capture.
We travelled to Rhino Watch, a lodge hidden between Solio Park and Aberdare National Park.
We stayed in beautiful, private cottages surrounded by lush gardens.
The staff were unforgettable — kind, warm, and genuinely caring.
They made us feel at home from the first moment.
Day 1 – First Contact with the Wild
Just a few hours after our arrival, the adventure began:
giraffes, monkeys, zebras, horses, antelopes…
We went horseback riding, we laughed, and we even joined traditional dances — the girls of our group danced with local women in traditional dress.
The energy was incredible.
Solio Park – Where the Big Five Live
On the second day, we experienced something we will never forget:
* White and black rhinos
* Leopards
* Lions
* Buffalos
Around them: giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impala, gazelle, topi, eland, baboons, warthogs, and rare birds — martial eagle, fish eagle — and even serval and reticulated giraffes.
We had a picnic inside the reserve: blankets on the ground, local dishes, fresh fruit… and just a few meters away, rhinos and giraffes wandering freely.
In moments like that, you understand how small — and how lucky — you are.
In the afternoon, we visited an orphanage.
We brought food, supplies, notebooks, crayons.
We played football with a ball made out of rags.
We laughed with the children, we were moved, we shared moments we will never forget.
Each one of us left a little fuller — and a little more humble.
It was a lesson in life.
Aberdare – Kenya at 3,200 meters
On the third day, we found ourselves surrounded by mist and mountains.
Aberdare National Park is another world: dense jungle, huge waterfalls, elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffaloes, monkeys, and the pure soundtrack of the wild.
We visited the historic lodge where 18-year-old Elizabeth learned of her father’s death — and returned to Britain to become queen.
History, nature, altitude, silence… everything makes you breathe differently up there.
That evening, back at Rhino Watch, the staff surprised us with a celebration for Marianna’s name day: cake, singing, traditional dancing.
A moment full of love.
Leaving for Mombasa the next morning was emotional.
The hugs with the staff were heartfelt.
We felt like we were leaving friends behind.
Mombasa – White Sand, Corals & Diving
We arrived in Mombasa and stayed at Coconut on the famous Diani Beach — endless white sand, palm trees, and monkeys jumping between the rooms.
This is where the second part of our adventure began: 10 unforgettable dives.
We saw:
* colorful coral reefs
* lobsters, groupers, tropical fish
* turtles, puffers, angelfish, nemo
* leaf scorpionfish
* a sea snake
* “sea cockroach”
* and an incredible amount of marine life on every dive
We traveled to the dive sites in a large traditional African boat.
The crew sang local songs — and we sang with them:
“Malaika nakupenda malaika…”
Pure joy.
Kongo River – Dancing in the Heart of Africa
One afternoon we took wooden canoes along the Kongo River.
We danced with locals, laughed, and lived moments you cannot describe — only feel.
Returning to the beach, a bonfire was waiting for us on the sand.
We danced with the hotel staff as the sun set over the Indian Ocean.
Simply unforgettable.
Mombasa – City, Color, Market
We toured the old city, ate at a top restaurant, visited a local carving community that makes incredible wooden statues, and explored a huge market full of fruits, spices, fish, legumes, and nuts.
A real dive into the daily heartbeat of Kenya.
A Trip That Changed Us
In 12 days we:
* laughed
* cried
* explored
* danced
* sang
* and above all… we bonded
Kenya was not just a destination.
It was a life lesson, an adventure, an emotion, a celebration.
For Thalassa Diving Academy and the 13 people who joined this journey, this trip became something far greater than an excursion:
It became a story we will carry inside us forever.
