The light uses two XML2 LEDs and has thermal protection in the anodised hardened body giving an output of over 2000+ lumen ,at 5000K ,over 5 levels of brightness plus strobe mode. The lamp features a piezo switch (not a magnetic switch) and voltage notifications when the batteries start to run down.
The Phaethon lamp can be used for diving to -250m depth, can be attached to a helmet, or alone as a headlight. It is also compatible with all GO PRO camera mount accessories. The total weight (with batteries) of this stylish headlamp is only 400gr.
Some information on power management and runtime:
To save bulk and weight, we run the Phaethon off two rather than four batteries. The two batteries give pretty good runtimes, so we feel justified in this decision. Better to have the lamp weigh less on the helmet and carry spare batteries in a pocket.
The battery pack has been designed to take off-the-shelf (unprotected) 18650 Li-Ion batteries, so the user can choose whatever brand he or she feels happiest with. The same philosophy has gone into the mount – by using the Go-Pro standard mount we allow a large range of mounting accessories to be used, according to your needs and preferences.
The driver circuit monitors and handles battery drain and warns when battery life reaches the middle (50% one flash),near the end of its life (90% two flashes) and a final warning before the power is finally spent (three flashes).
We prefer to use the NCR18650B Panasonic 3400mAh batteries and we consider these to be the best value for money and reliability. Testing with these batteries gives the following runtimes:
Level 1 (approximately 70 lumens): runtime of weeks!!!
Level 2 (approximately 300 lumens): runtime of 13 hours
Level 3 (approximately 800 lumens): runtime of 6 hours
Level 4 (approximately 1400 lumens): runtime of 2,5 hours
Level 5 (approximately 2000 lumens): runtime of 30 minutes
After running for 30 minutes at Level 5 (2000 lumens) the batteries would still last for hours at lower levels. (L1,L2,L3).
