Mahoney National school championship Mnsc The Harmattan Champions League (HCL) is The Gambia's premier grassroots football tournament, dedicated to showcasing and nurturing local talent.

Operating under the African Regional Football Confederation (ARFC), HCL aims to elevate the standard of grassroots football through a structured and competitive platform. Key Features of HCL:

Tournament Structure: The league follows a Swiss model format, featuring 24 teams competing in 96 matches over the course of the season. Community Engagement: HCL emphasizes community involvement by collabor

ating with local Nawettan committees, ensuring that the tournament resonates with and benefits the communities it serves. Financial Sustainability: The league operates on a self-sustaining model, generating revenue through team registration fees, ticket sales, and sponsorships. This approach ensures that funds are reinvested into the development of grassroots football in The Gambia. Youth Development: Beyond the tournament, HCL is committed to youth development programs, providing training and opportunities for young players to advance in their football careers. By focusing on grassroots initiatives, HCL not only promotes football but also fosters community spirit and development throughout The Gambia. MoHERST Tripartite Funds – MoHERST Programme Portfolio 2026

MoHERST has established three complementary funding mechanisms that form an integrated financing ecosystem, supporting student access, institutional strengthening, and research commercialisation:

1. Student Revolving Loan Scheme (SRLS):
• Provides affordable loans to Gambian students pursuing tertiary education.
• Reduces financial barriers, with a focus on disadvantaged students, particularly females.
• Uses a revolving fund mechanism to ensure sustainability.

2. Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund (THET):
• Supports infrastructure development, faculty capacity building, and research initiatives.
• Strengthens tertiary institutions and enhances student welfare and institutional quality.

3. National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF):
• Catalyses knowledge-driven development through competitive grants.
• Supports basic research, applied innovation, youth innovation challenges, partnership grants, and capacity strengthening.
• Passed into law in 2025 and managed by MoHERST with multi-stakeholder board oversight.

The presentation will outline capitalisation needs, governance arrangements, and opportunities for partner contributions, providing avenues for strategic collaboration and sustainable investment in higher education and research.
