As shared this morning on Radio Gibraltar by Stephen AJ Whatley, the motto of the World Chess Federation FIDE is Gens Una Sumus (We are One Family). So today we are setting ourselves and our wonderful community of Gibraltar 🇬🇮 a simple challenge.

Play one game of chess against another person, today!

It could be a friend, family member, someone online, someone at work - but it can't be against a computer!

Lovely day at the Commonwealth Park on Saturday. The wind did not deter children from enjoying the day. We even had a visit from Benji Borastero who arrived and gave an impromptu lesson to a very happy young player.

(Children Healthy Active Multi-Agency Programme)
who are holding their awareness event this morning until 3pm

Saturday saw our national team compete in the Strait Games in Algeciras against teams from Tarifa, Los Barrios, La Linea and Algeciras.
Dev Mahbubani, Harry Maloney, Ashton Gonzalez, Michael Cortez, Finlay Savignon-Watson, David Verdes and Joseph Cortes all gave an excellent account of themselves. The games stopped for lunch in the park and a spot of football to run off excess energy and commenced again in the afternoon. The highlight or the day came at the closing ceremony when Finlay was asked to not only head our team in the parade for the closing ceremony but also carry the banner into the stadium for the Gibraltar contingent. A proud moment for Finally, his parents and the Gibraltar Chess Association.
Well done boys!!

Our Easter Chess Seminar saw 20 young players attain their Bronze and Silver Gibraltar Certificate of Excellence Awards and compete in a rapid play competition on their final day.
Taking home Gold was Harry Maloney who put in an excellent performance with straight wins to finish undefeated.
A 4 way Play-off for Silver was jointly won by Divyaj Shahani & Michael Cortes with Ashton Gonzalez winning Bronze.
Congratulations to all players who attended.

Come and join us for a game of chess at the John Mackintosh Hall between 10am-5pm

There will be lots of activities and youth organisers will be distributing goodie bags for the first 240 young people attending the event.
