Central Regional Sports Director Supports Team Central at 35th National Basic Inter-Regional Games

The Central Regional Sports Director, Madam Joyce Dasta, has donated assorted refreshments to Team Central to support the athletes participating in the 35th National Basic Inter-Regional Games, currently being hosted by the Greater Accra Region.

The donation, which was made on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the University of Ghana (UG) Sports Stadium, comprised packs of bottled water, soft drinks, and bags of sachet water.

The items were received on behalf of the athletes by the Central Regional Physical Education (PE) Coordinator, Mr. Francis Kumatia.

Madam Joyce Dasta congratulated Team Central for their performance in the competition so far and commended the athletes for their commitment, determination, and hard work.

She encouraged the athletes not to be discouraged by their results in any of the events but to remain focused, disciplined, and continue giving off their best in the remaining competitions.

She further urged them to see the games as an opportunity to develop their skills, gain valuable experience, and represent the Central Region with pride.

Following the presentation, Madam Joyce Dasta stayed at the venue to observe the semi-final match involving Team Central. Her presence served as a further show of support and encouragement to the athletes as they competed for a place in the final.

The presentation and the Director’s presence at the match were witnessed by the National Schools and Colleges Sports representative, Madam Golden Esi Andam; Head of Technical, Central Directorate, Mr. John Joel Nii Oblie Ankrah; Team Central Chaperone, Madam Esther Yeboah; and some members of Team Central.

The gesture is expected to boost the morale and welfare of the athletes as they continue their participation in the 35th National Basic Inter-Regional Games.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Visits Cape Coast Stadium to Inspect Facility

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Cong Song, paid a working visit to the Cape Coast Stadium to inspect the condition of the facility and assess some of the challenges confronting its operations.

The delegation was led by the Director of the Confucius Institute, Professor Emmanuel Amo Ofori. The visit formed part of efforts to gain first-hand knowledge of the current state of the stadium and explore possible areas of support and collaboration.

Management of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Central Region, welcomed the Ambassador and his delegation to the facility. The Head of Estates, Miss Eva Oteng, led the delegation on a detailed inspection tour of the stadium, highlighting the various challenges facing the facility.

During the tour, the delegation was taken through key areas of the stadium, where the condition of the infrastructure and other pressing maintenance needs were brought to the attention of the Ambassador.

His Excellency Mr. Cong Song expressed appreciation to the management of National Sports Authority for the warm reception accorded him and his delegation. He said he had taken note of the challenges presented during the inspection and would discuss them with the relevant authorities upon his return to China.

Management of the National Sports Authority, Central Region, expressed its appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Cong Song, Professor Emmanuel Amo Ofori, and the entire delegation for the visit and their interest in the development and improvement of the Cape Coast Stadium.

NSA Central Staff Join National Sanitation Day Clean-Up Exercise

Staff of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Central Region, participated in the National Sanitation Day exercise spearheaded by the President of Ghana by undertaking a clean-up of the frontage and inner premises of the Cape Coast Stadium.

The exercise formed part of the Authority's commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and supporting the government's initiative to create healthier and cleaner communities. Staff worked together to sweep, clear weeds, collect refuse, and tidy the stadium surroundings, ensuring the facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming for athletes and the general public.

The National Sports Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean sporting environment and encouraged the public to embrace good sanitation practices

The Central Regional Sports Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), accompanied by her team, paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Central Regional Minister, the Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), and the Metropolitan Chief Director as part of efforts to mobilize support for the Black Stars.

During the visit, the Sports Director presented branded Black Stars jerseys to the officials, encouraging them to show their solidarity and support for the national team in their upcoming matches.

She highlighted the importance of national unity and collective encouragement in boosting the morale of the players as they represent Ghana on the international stage.

The Regional Minister, Chief Director of the RCC, and the Metropolitan Chief Director warmly received the delegation and expressed their appreciation for the thoughtful gesture. They commended the NSA for its initiative and pledged their support for the Black Stars.

The visit ended with a shared commitment to rallying public support for the national team and promoting sports development within the Central Region.

*Oguaa Traditional Council Rallies Behind the Black Stars*

As Ghana embarks on its FIFA World Cup campaign on Wednesday, 17th June 2026, at 11pm, the Central Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority has taken a symbolic step to unite tradition, patriotism, and sport in support of the national team.

This afternoon, the Regional Sports Director, Madam Joyce Datsa, presented a customized Ghana jersey and an official football to the Oguaa Manhene, Osaabarima Dr. Kwesi Atta II, as a gesture to invoke the blessings, guidance, and spiritual support of our forefathers for a successful World Cup journey.

Receiving the items with admiration and enthusiasm, the Oguaa Manhene pledged his unwavering support and best wishes to the Black Stars as they carry the hopes, dreams, and pride of millions of Ghanaians onto the global stage.

The NSA Central Region today joined the Organizers from Akukudam Keepfit Club and other various Keepfit Clubs in the Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly to hold a health walk in honour of Mohammed Dramani Kalilu, an ex-football player, who was a member of the Ghana U-23 National Team that won bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
He played as a defender for clubs like Tarkwa Gold Stars FC, Eleven Wise FC, Accra Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko FC etc before his retirement from football.
A statue was later unveiled in his honour and a roundabout named after him for uplifting the image of the district through sports and his other philanthropic works in the district.
He played with host of players like Samuel Kuffour, Maxwell Konadu, Nii Lamptey, Kwame Ayew, Yaw Preko, Alex Nyarko and many more.
